I have been interested in Crystals for some time now, particularly their healing properties. If you have not heard of crystal healing before it is basically an alternative therapy which uses crystals or gemstones to facilitate balancing and healing of the body. It is not for everyone but I have found it very useful and enjoy learning all about different crystals. I was browsing at all the books in The Works one day when I came across 'The essential crystal handbook' by Simon and Sue Lilly. After flicking through a few of the pages to get an idea of the type of info the book included and liking what I saw I purchased it and couldn't wait to get it home to have a closer look.
*Size and Cover*
The book is rather small, just 13.5cm (H) by 10.5cm (W) so pretty much pocket size which I found rather cute. However, it contains 288 pages so doesn't lack on information. The cover has a white background with the name of the book displayed clearly at the top. At the centre of the cover is an image of a beautiful large crystal point. There are also another three images of crystals at the bottom of the cover.
Introduction - A small intro telling you a little about crystals and gemstones.
Part One: The Power of Crystals - Info on Healing traditions, The geology of gems, Your crystal collection, Crystal healing techniques, Crystal layouts and Crystal meditations.
Part Two: A Guide to Crystals - Over 100 crystals put in groups of colour which makes it easier to find which one your looking for. However, I think it would of made much more sense to put them in alphabetical order as some crystals come in various colours. Each crystal profile has a vast amount of information, firstly there is a bit of background info on the crystal, then there are subheadings of Identification and care, Magic, Helaing Functions and Practical ideas, also similar stones and each crystal has a little grid telling you the colours, Lustre, Hardness and System. There is an image of every crystal with each profile.
I think this is a rather handy book to have if you are interested in crystals like me. I certainly have other crystal info books which I prefer, however if I just want to quickly look up a crystal to refresh my memory then this is the book I look for. I love the images of the crystals featured throughout the book. Part One contains some very useful information and it is all written in simple terms making it very easy to understand.
This book has a RRP of £8.99, however I have never seen it sold for this price anywhere. I bought mine at The Works for £2.99 which I think is a very good price and it is certainly worth paying this for. You can also buy this book on Amazon for £3.99.
"The Essential Crystal Handbook" is a superb user's and collector's guide to more than 100 crystals, each one illustrated with sparkling colour photographs, with a concise profile of the stone's visual characteristics, healing properties and other practical uses. Fascinating information on the science and particular cultural history of particular crystals is also provided, including any myths and legends associated with them. There is also practical information on key topics such as healing meditation, Ayurveda, Feng Shui, amulets and birthstones, wands and pendulums, connections with auras and chakras, how to cleanse, charge and care for crystals and how to use them most for healing and balancing.
