      Very helpful

      An interesting read!

If your not interested in witchcraft then I guess not only will this book be of no interest to you but you'll think I'm batty! Me though I consider myself Wiccan, I do believe in it and openly practice white witchcraft.

I'm not much of a reader unless its self help books, guides, medical journals and anything about alternative medicine and the likes so this book sort of fits into that type of book really as it isn't a story book this is basically a guide to being Wiccan, practising magic and grasping a greater insight to what its all about!

The author, Silver Ravenwolf has several other book titles about the subject to her name. She is a practising witch from Pennsylvania and has attained Wiccan priesthood as well as being an elder in the family of Serphant Stone. She is also director of the international Wiccan/Pagan Press Alliance...so she's pretty much up way up there when it comes to talking about the subject I'd say!

      The Book:

The thing that stood out for me about this book when I spotted it on Amazon.co.uk was the cover. Its a lovely purple colour with a gorgeous picture shown of a very beautiful young witch on a broomstick. course this is directed at the new generation of witches and to me this really appealed.

The book was published in 2002 so ok its ten years old now, not that matters when it comes to this subject really and it contains a whopping 300 pages, large pages at that and all. I wouldn't say the print is huge but it certainly isn't small and its a black and white book really with the odd black and white picture or symbol within it.

There are four sections laid out clearly in the book which pretty much is an intensive guide to how to be Wiccan and practice the art of witchcraft. Section 1 talks about becoming a witch and learning a bit of the language used and about days we should be celebrating. Section 2 talks about giving ourselves our with names and the importance of those as well as creating sacred space for ourselves and having a magical cabinet, really this is about setting it all up. Section 3 talks about rituals and how to achieve them and section 4 talks about telepathy and reincarnation and the likes. Finally we finish with a short history lesson, a guide to newsletters and a guide to services.

      My Opinion:

Ok so this as you may have gathered this isn't a spell book and lucky for me I knew that before I bought it, this simply is as I revealed earlier a factual book based on being Wiccan and the information you need to know. I like the friendly almost joky manner Silver uses at times, I feel like I'm being told from a friend some information. Some of it is light reading and easy to understand some a bit harder to digest so this really is a book not only suitable for beginners learning this but also people like me who have been practising now a few years, put it this way I learnt plenty reading this unputdowanable book that I didn't know about prior to reading it!

I found the 'Magical Jargon' section in the book really helpful. I've read stuff on this subject before, found words I didn't understand and simply put them into my own context so was interested to find out the real meanings of things and also very interested in the section about healing other people, again a subject I do know a little about but it was nice to see information given on doing it absolutely correctly and the procedure that should be followed. to practise it. There's also a section about reading other peoples expressions and coming out as a witch and to be able to explain to others all about it.

This book cost me £3.00 including postage and packaging from Amazon in a good but used condition and for me this is a great book to add to a Wiccan collection you may already have. I wouldn't really say this is the best first book on the subject to get and maybe one to add later but its a jolly good read, understandable and very well laid out and I certainly won't be avoiding Silvers books in the future!

      Blessed be x
