Advantages: Easy to read, no frills, tried and tested by a real allotmenteer

Disadvantages: You will want an allotment or three

We purchased this book when we took on an allotment in 2008, it came highly recommended from the "old boys" on the plot. Its retail price is £5.99 and I picked my copy up for slightly less on amazon. It was my christmas present to myself.
It has to be one of the best allotment books available, its seperated into easy to use sections, starting with "why grow your own vegetables" to "compost, manures and fertilizers" it covers everything and more.
The index is laid out so well, even my children can find what they are looking for. The glossary really was a great addition to us newbie plot holders.
This book is not fussy it doesn't have the glossy pics that others have filling the pages, its a basic no nonsence easy to use and read guide on how to manage a plot. It gives you the pros and cons of everything related to your allotment and you know by the way it is writtten that these methods have been tried and tested for many years.

My husband and I have read it end to end several times, and have dipped into it for a quick referrence more times than I have dunked rich tea biscuits in my cuppa.

For a no frills, easy to understand addition to your book shelf you can not beat this book. Veg growing has become a real obsession with us and I firmly believe this book has contributed to our successes and plots, (we now have two) be warned it will have you hooked)

Summary: Great book, simple at its best
