Hasbro Playskool Mr Potato Head
by Bunnyhop2
Earlier in the year Tesco had their toy department included as part of their clubcard voucher exchange and so I thought I'd have a look for presents for my twins 2nd birthday. I came across the Mr and Mrs Potato Head toys who are suitable from 2 years, as I was ordering online I didn't get to choose which version I got but was pleased ... when I unpacked it to find I had the 'Mr' version. I was familiar with the toy from the Disney Toy Story films which I love and thought it would be nice for the girls to recognise one of the toys as their own when they watch it.
What do you get?
Included in Mr Potato Head is his body (although when this toy was first invented you had to use a potato as the body!) and an assortment of body parts and accessories. The body parts are arms, eyes, nose, teeth, tongue and ears. You then also have a cap, shoes, glasses and moustache to make your own unique Mr Potato Head look. All parts are made of sturdy plastic and are bright colours to engage your little one during play, for example he has a green cap, blue shoes and a shiny red nose.
Playing with Mr Potato Head
One of my girls loves this toy and the other really isn't interested, which saves fighting over it! Mr Potato Head is great for teaching parts of the body and where they are. The pieces have to be pushed into the holes on Mr Potato Head's body and my little girl at just over 2 does struggle with this and needs me to help with some of them. If I try to put them in the wrong place I get an 'oh no!' until I put them where they should be. I was initially worried that the glasses would break as they didn't seem to be that flexible but they are still in one piece despite quite rough handling.
When you have finished designing Mr Potato Head the pieces not attached to his body can be stored inside him via the opening on his back. This is a great idea as we have so many pieces from different toys it is nice to have them tidy in one place, it also makes it an ideal toy for when we go away.
Price and Availability
As at November 2012 this toy is £9.97 at Tesco and is included in their clubcard voucher exchange promotion. It is also available from retailers such as Amazon where is it currently £10.49. I only paid £6.97 for mine earlier in the year which I think is a more reasonable price for it.
Would I recommend?
Yes, it is a good quality fun toy but it's a shame the price has increased by so much. I'm sure my girls will be playing with it for years to come. Read the complete review |

Moshi Monsters Golden Collection Moshling Tin Series 2
by carlz2001uk
For the past year or so my eldest daughter has joined in on the latest craze. Moshi Monsters. When she first mentioned them to me I had absolutely no idea what she was talking about, but when she started to explain, I realised just how important they were to her and realised I needed to take notice as no doubt I would be buying lots of ... them! When we first started buying them for her, it was coming up to her birthday so I asked mums of school friends to buy Moshi Monsters for her then upcoming party. Her favourite that she received was the limited edition gold collection tin. No doubt her like for it had something to do with the gold and the fact that it was limited edition - I forgot how important these kind of things are at a young age!
So, what are Moshi Monsters?! Well, they started out as a kind of online community for children with virtual monsters, but as with most things, it has materialised into merchandise which you can buy. There are lots of things you can buy from the range including magazines, soft toys, computer games and trading cards. The trading cards and the little figures seem to be the important ones though and the ones that my daughter is interested in. Since we have had this limited edition box for well over a year now, there has been another limited edition release (not so limited I guess!). They are usually priced at around £10 per box, but for some reason this gold collection tin is selling on Amazon for around £50. I'm not sure if the price is wrong, because I certainly wouldn't pay that, but I will make sure my daughter hangs on to it, just in case the price is right!
In this particular tin you can expect to receive 8 golden Moshlings (Gold Snookums, Gold Iggy, Gold Angel, Gold McNutty, Gold Gurgle, Gold Fumble, Gold DJ Quack, Gold Stanley), a golden trading card and a flyer of who's who. The tin is also a nice little storage tin for other Moshlings and is a good way of keeping them all together. My daughter only has around 15 Moshlings but there are over 100 available. That's a lot of pocket money!
Quality wise, Moshlings are what you would expect from modern toys. Made from plastic, they are durable, but aren't ever going to be the best made toys for something so mass produced. They do wipe clean well, I have found out the hard way! My daughter spilt a glass of fresh orange juice in her tin and all over the Moshlings!
Widely available, and seemingly the latest craze, any child from around 5 - 9 will no doubt know about Moshi Monsters and the gold collectors tin will be a hit. A perfect stocking filler. Read the complete review |
