Lego Key Light Keyring
by jo1976 We're a big fan of Lego in our household, so we were delighted when Lego started branching out and producing lots of new Lego branded merchandise a few years ago. One of our first Lego branded gadgets was this incredibly cute key ring. Based on the ever-popular Lego mini-figures, this Lego man is around twice the size of his usual ... counterparts but every bit as endearing, although this is not intended to come apart in the same way that a 'normal' Lego figure would do. The arms and legs are movable, however, so the little lad does have some appeal as a novelty toy as well as being a practical device. I tend to find Lego products, especially the merchandise and gadgets, to be over-priced as the Lego brand generally warrants a premium price tag. I was surprised by how inexpensive this fun little novelty key ring actually was. My oldest son actually bought this originally a couple of years ago now and paid around £5 from Toys R Us. (The key ring was then adopted by my husband before I eventually managed to accrue it!) Even now, the key ring is still widely available and can be picked up for around the £5-£6 mark which I think is very reasonable for such an attractive and practical branded product. As a keyring, this Lego man fulfils his primary role perfectly well, with the key ring being securely attached. The only drawback to its design is that the chunky not-so-mini-figure does make the key ring quite bulky. This can be handy if my keys are loose in my bag but also proves to be a minor inconvenience when they are in my pocket. This was one of the reasons that the Lego man ended up getting transferred on to my keys, rather than my husband's, as he found the thing a little too cumbersome when used alongside quite a collection of keys. As well as being a practical key holder, with the key ring rather painfully drilled into the poor man's head, this clever key ring also incorporates a fully functional torch. The torch is operated by a simple press on Lego man's tummy and the bulbs have been cleverly incorporated into the base of each foot. For a novelty item, the torch feature is suprisingly bright and effective. Admittedly, you probably wouldn't want to use it to change a tyre in the pitch dark or rummage around in the loft (I've tried the latter) but for a small torch that is always ready to hand, it has come in useful. Even more pleasing is the fact that the small button cell batteries needed come ready installed and are replaceable, although I never actually needed to replace the batteries at all so this is certainly economical to 'run'. My kids, especially my two year old son, do love this keyring, especially the torch feature, so it has been mauled about and survived being chewed and sucked and generally abused for quite some time. (Most parents will acknowledge how much babies love keys even without a cute man and a torch to play with!) For the most part, my little Lego man withstood this treatment and survived life being tossed about in my pockets and bags without too much damage. There is only so much any Lego man can take, however, and mine did lose an arm after a few months. Unlike 'real' Lego, attempts to reattach the arm weren't as great and it kept falling off once it had been loosened until the arm eventually managed to go missing altogether. My man soldiered on for quite some time after that until disaster struck again and the second arm went astray. At this point I felt it time to wave goodbye to my little friend (sadly, he couldn't return the compliment) and he went off to the big Lego toy box in the sky. Despite my key ring's sad demise, I do feel that this was great value for money. It's lovely to find something that's fun and functional and this keyring is certainly deserving of the Lego branding and all the positive associations that go along with it. I haven't replaced this Lego keyring since breaking it but I'd certainly be pleased if somebody decided to buy me another. This would make a great stocking filler for anybody that still loves Lego and comes highly recommended. Read the complete review |

Lego Key Light Keyring
by rolandrat ---The Brand--- The Lego Group began in the workshop of Ole Kirk Christiansen, a carpenter from Denmark, who began making wooden toys in 1932. In 1934, his company came to be called "LEGO", from the Danish phrase leg godt, which means "play-well". It expanded to producing plastic toys in 1947. ... (Wikipedia) ---The Product--- A strong blue plastic Lego man with the customary yellow head, red arms and the Lego logo on the front of his chest. (Although online they do have a red Lego man as well with blue arms). The head, arms, hands and legs are movable. The torch shines out of the base of the Lego man's feet by pressing the logo on his chest. His legs move independantly so they can be adjusted and positioned to suit. To the top of his round brick head is fixed a chain with the standard round keyring on the end. The box states it is advisable for over 5 years only. If the batteries run out his back can be opened up and two small circular watch batteries inserted (CR2025 3v batteries). He stands 7cm tall. Although there is also a mini version. ---Availability--- This has been on sale in a wide variety of places from Ebay to Argos, Amazon and even AVON catalogues. Most sell for over £8 but the mini half size version is currently selling on Play.com for £4.99. ---Options--- I would say I bought the standard keyring version. You can buy the keyring as a Star Wars figure or as larger torches and a lantern - some are firemen, policemen, construction worker or even as a large Lego brick, also he comes as a mini keyring as well. ---Cost--- I was fortunate to buy this online through Ebay off Argos and only paid £1.99 plus 99p postage - making a bargian price of £2.98. I had seen this in the AVON catalogue for around the £8 mark which was way too expensive for a novelty in my opinion. ---Why I Bought It and My Opinion--- Firstly I have to confess that my youngest son is 21! However he loves Christmas so as wel as having money for the normal male things like computer games and DVDs I like to get a selection of items for him to unwrap on Christmas morning - bearing in mind I am on a limited budget so many of the quirty gift ideas online are too expensive. However I was given a tip-off from the Money Saving Expert forum about these keyrings being on sale at a reduced price before Christmas so thought it would be a cute novelty - as we had always loved doing Lego years ago and still have huge boxes of it in the attic. I am sure everyone is quite nostalgic about Lego as I doubt there are many who never had a box of the bricks somewhere. I was so surprised when it arrived - it came on a super bright yellow card and was much larger and stronger than I had expected, really good quality and not at cheap and plasticy as I had expected - I was sorry I had not ordered more - but of course they were all sold out at that price by then. Anyhow son delighted with the quirky gift - and even his 27 year old brother was asking 'where did you see that?' as I have to do most of my shopping online! Also eldest son's girlfriend had got him a Lego brick keyring - so it was not too babyish a gift after all!! I cannot comment on its durability if used every day as a keyring as son now has it on display on his desk! ---Would I Recommend?--- Yes definitely - and not just for children! Would have liked one for myself. The torch is not a hugely powerful one but that would not be expected anyway. It is fine for finding the keyhole of the front door for for your car, or for rooting around inside your handbag! ---Star Rating--- 4 stars. The product deserves 5 really but I have marked it down purely because at over £8 in most places it is quite expeinsive. ---Website--- www.lego.com Read the complete review |

Lego Key Light Keyring
by feefeedooya My son and i are suckers for Lego i cant help it i always enjoyed Lego as a child maybe because my two older brothers were and had tons of the stuff. I was so pleased when my son reached the Lego stage. Last christmas i couldn't resist this Lego man keyring after spotting it on ebay uk. Its a Lego figure with a built in torch. The ... Lego keyring cost me £4.99 from Ebay uk brand new have also seen them for sale on Amazon uk, and Firebox. The Lego man keyring comes in a yellow box with the front being open so you can feel and see the full keyring. Taking the keyring out the packaging is easy and the cardboard opens at the top and unfolds, on the back there are two bits of metal ties to undo and they keyring is free. Lego man keyring is an official Lego item and the man looks exactly like the original Lego figures. He has moving arms and legs, head can twist side to side and has the keychain attached. The loop of the keyring can be attached to a bunch of keys by twisting the hoop around. Lego man is dressed in a blue boiler suit with the Lgo logo on it, his arms are bright red and head is yellow. I think he is very bright and colourful looking sure stands out. Lego man keyring is special because the soles of his feet have a built in Lcd torch. Lego man keyring comes with batteries already in him but should you need to replace them you undo the screws on his back where a flap can be taken of and new 2 x watch batteries can be inserted. To use the torch you need to press the Lego mans tummy in and his feet light up brightly although the lights are not good enough to use as a normal torch its good enough for seeing around a small area or shining into the door locks in the dark. The torch is more of a novelty on the keyring. He measures roughly 2 inches tall. I put this Lego man keyring in my sons stocking and he loved it. He has a set of keys for a cupboard where he has his consoles games under lock away from his little sisters so the keyring is attached to them. He likes to move the Lego man around and has him standing up most of the time and the keyring can take the weight of the keys as well. I love how durable the keyring is how it is possible and again how realistic it looks to the Lego minifigures . A fun stocking filler for children or adults i highly recommend it.
