A cute little money box for Betty Boop fans

For those that regularly read my reviews I am sorry that this once again, discusses Betty Boop and for those of you who have not familiar with my reviews, I would advise that I am Betty Boop mad! This cute adorable female shows herself in almost every room of my home in some shape or form and this review discusses an item bought for me at Christmas by one of my work colleagues, so a product suggestion was made to Dooyoo to enable me to advise you of this cute money box.

I had seen these money boxes in the shops not long after I initially started my collection just over three years ago, but I had decided not to make a purchase and I'm a little unsure why, as it is simply so adorable. The money box stands at approximately 15 cm in height, 7 cm in width and 7 cm in depth. Whilst it was initially available in a fairly large range of colours according to Amazon this is the "new look black range" and as far as I am aware, no other colours can be purchased.

The square shaped money box is manufactured from a fairly thick tin and I have made a point of stating "fairly thick", as I have seen many money boxes in high street stores that are so thin that they misshape when handled. On each of the sides we see raised areas of metal displaying the same image of Betty, who has her one eye closed and is blowing us a huge smacker from her poised ruby red lips. Situated below each of the images is the word "Betty Boop" with an image of a pair of lips located above the letter "B", which has been created in such a way to make us believe that this adorable little female has left an imprint from her bright red lipstick!

When the money box was initially presented to me there was a small suitcase style padlock, which was clipped to the small clasp located at the front section of the lid where I found two keys contained within a plastic bag. The lid displays three of Betty's lipstick imprints together with her name and there is a large enough opening to house all coins, including £2's. There are two small hinges at the rear and I would advise that the lid fits perfectly unlike other money boxes I have owned in the past and the beauty of this money box is that there is no frantic shaking and rattling if you wish to remove any coins, as they are removeable from the fully opening metal lid.

I am of the opinion that this is a perfect way of saving, particularly for children as the keys can be hidden away by Mum and Dad and it is absolutely impossible to remove any coins through the narrow opening. However, one thing I would point out here is that little ones may experience difficulty in opening and closing the lid because it needs a little extra force to ensure the lip is correctly positioned around the upper section to enable it to securely close.

On the underside of the money box is the usual information that you would find on all genuine Betty Boop merchandise and that is the name of the manufacturer and Trademark owner, namely The Hearst Holdings Inc, which is accompanied by a small image of Betty. We are also provided with the name "Instant Gifts International Ltd", who I presume are a subsidiary company. As stated, I have owned my money box since Christmas and there is no sign of any wear and tear, such as rust with mine being used to save £2 coins, where I have managed to save over fifty since Christmas - it's surprising how they mount up. I've yet to fill my money box, but to give you a rough idea, the fifty or so £2 coins have taken up a very small amount of space, so in £2 coins alone I could probably save in the region of £800, which is somewhat doubtful as I will probably raid it before then!

These cute little money boxes are widely available from stores such as gift shops, card shops and often chemists where I have seen them in window displays and they tend to cost around £5. However, I have checked on Amazon and would advise that at the time of writing (16 February 2011) you can pick one up for £2.40 plus £5.49 shipping, which in my opinion is a little too pricey, particularly as this is extremely lightweight. Cleaning the money box is an easy task by way of a normal yellow household duster. This is a reasonably priced money box and comes to you with my full recommendation. Consequently, it receives 5 stars from me.

I hope you found my review useful and would thank you for reading.
