Advantages: nice idea, would make a good (if ludicoursly expensive) present
Disadvantages: far far too expensive, cheaply made, flimsy
I came across this item in a card shop recently and momentarily thought about buying it, but it dawned on me very quickly that the price they were asking for it (£3.99 I think it was) was ridiculous considering what it actually was. One of these tins has later found its way into my family kitchen however, meaning that i can legitimately review it. Admittedly its quite a cool idea to have a swear box, and one that will appeal to easily offended family members who have to share their home with indivudlas who a predisposed to randomly spouting profanities, working as a little spare change box into which change can be insterted in the slot in the top, then spent on something nice when the tin becomes full (as a ......reward for all that swearing I suppose!).
There is tactile/auditory satisfaction to be had in dropping coins into the tin, but it really is a lot of money to ask for given that it is so cheaply made and that you can make one yourself in five minutes using an empty coffee tin/jar, a knife, some glue and a piece of paper. In many ways youd be better off making one, as this would have a personal touch to it and would have more weight to it than this flimsy, lightweight thing. The product is just a cheap plastic cylinder with a hole cut in the top and wrapped in a piece of black glossy paper with SWEAR TIN written on it alongside a couple of speech-bubbles reading "$&*$&£!!" and the like.
I suppose it could make for an amusing and thoughtful present for a particularly sweary relative that is both useful and likely to raise a smile, but genearlly speaking its far too epensive and not worth picking up unless you can find one in a pound shop. Or, alternatively, if you really must have this item, you could make one, have a good, full day of non-stop swearing, then use the accumulated pennies to buy this manufactured swear-tin instead. Just an idea......
Summary: too expensive for waht it is- youd be better off just making one yourself.
