Advantages: So much fun, great for all ages
Disadvantages: Can be addictive and very frustrating at times
My twelve year old daughter received this game for her birthday in September. This is what she and I thought of it.
At first glance it looks like a garden bird feeder. It is a clear acrylic tube filled with bird seed. The difference between this and the usual birdies dinner plate is that this one has 47 different items hidden beneath the seeds and grains. The idea of the game as the name suggests is to find them.
In the box there is a little pad of checklists, the checklists are all the same and there are about 50 sheets in the pad. I Have scanned one onto the computer so that when they run out or more likely are lost we can still play the game.
The items vary greatly some of the things include a flower, elastic band, cotton reel, feather, drawing pin and a needle. It really is looking for a needle in a seed stack. Some of the items are easy and were found in seconds yet others like a staple took days and a split pin took the whole journey time from London to Wales.
My daughter loves this game, I thought the game would be a one hit wonder like many of these gimmicky toys but four months on it is still regularly played with. We have made up some little challenges to keep it more interesting such as find as many as you can in two minutes or you have one minute to find a certain thing. My seven year old loves playing as do my husband and I. It is such a simple idea yet so addictive and very very frustrating.
It is perfect for a quick few minutes before dinner / bed game but equally as good for long journeys, we took it to Wales and it was used on and off for the whole trip.
This can be bought from Hawkins Bazaar for £10. There is a 'Kids' version with bigger and brighter items although I don't know how challenging this would be.
The age is from 3 years. It really is one of those things that will be used by children and adults alike.
I would highly recommend this game, but beware it can take over and become really addictive.
Summary: A great game for all ages.
