Advantages: Sturdy, Easy To Clean
Disadvantages: Fails To Make Ice Cream, Messy
Every year at Christmas some must have novelty toy hits the shelves and becomes a must have present, let me tell you all about one such item The Food Fun Ice Cream Maker… You see on the box lots of lovely ice cream coming from the machine and it states “ It’s delicious, it’s fun, now you and your friends can make delicious ice cream at home in 10 minutes” Wow, sounds impressive doesn’t it, we all love ice cream don’t we so lets examine this new invention and put it through it’s paces. The Ice Cream Maker = = = = = = = = = = = This needs to be assembled before use of course and consists of a white base, a metal drum, pink handle with cogs and a purple clear lid, which acts as a scraper. All plastic bar the drum but very sturdy I may add. Extras = = = = An ice cream scoop for removing the ice cream from the machine, 4 tasting spoons in Barbie pink both of which are washable and then 4 ice cream cups which are made from cardboard meaning they can only be used the once, clever not! The Recipe Book = = = = = = = = = Here you get your step by step instructions for your home made delight, plus all the recipes and ideas for more fancy desserts such as sundaes and ice cream floats,so what exactly do you need in order to make your ice cream? Ingredients: For each recipe you will need : 200g salt 100ml warm water Ice cubes Strawberry/chocolate ice cream: 120 ml single cream 120 ml whole milk 120 ml strawberry/chocolate syrup 1 dessertspoon sugar Pinch of salt. Or if you fancy a more traditional ice cream simply substitute the syrup with 1 tsp of vanilla essence. Ice Cream Time = = = = = = = = = Now your machine is assembled your ready to start. 1. Open the metal drum and put your ice
cubes, salt and warm water inside, firmly shut the lid and slot back into machine. 2. Mix all the ingredients for your chosen ice cream and leave to stand for 5 minutes for a better result. 3. Make sure the purple lid which is also your scraper is in the non scraping position for the time being. 4. Pour in ¾ of the mixture into the back of the machine. Now you’re getting the idea! 5. Slowly turn the handle; this turns the metal drum, which of course rests in the mixture you added earlier. 6. After 3 – 5 minutes you will notice that the mixture is coating the drum and in fact is frozen, this is your ice cream! When you are satisfied that it is frozen enough, push the scraper down and your ready made delight slides into a bottom tray, you then use your spoon and pop it into your cups and there you have it, delicious home made ice cream, decorate and enjoy……. 7. Well that’s what you should end up with but in actual fact the finished product is less than appetising. Yes it does eventually stick to the drum but it takes a lot longer than 3-5 minutes, you then scrape it off and it slides into the tray and promptly returns to slop before your eyes, nowhere near ice cream in texture. You would need to repeat this process of freezing and turning and scraping over and over and over again to get all the mixture used. I even changed the ice in the drum twice and still it refused to freeze…. The idea is excellent as it is a well-made machine/toy and no batteries are required. All parts are extremely sturdy and all fully washable, well barring the tubs…. It is just such a shame that it fails miserably to deliver anything remotely like ice cream, milkshake more like!! So if your little darlings ask you for one of these, stay well clear at £19.99 it is a total waste of time and money, buy them a tub of ice c
ream instead…..

- 09/01/03 Brilliant op, definitely nominated for a crown. I have an electric ice cream machine too and it's fab - perfect results every time although I've had it for a while and the metal bowl is starting to get worn out - the saline solution inside only lasts for so long. Thanks again for a fab op - grinchgirl, what's wrong with Mr. Frostys? They're excellent! :D :D :D :D :D |

- 20/05/02 I bought this for my daughter's 5th birthday at the weekend. What a let down! I wish I'd found this site before purchasing. I would find it very difficult to recommend this product to anyone - unless they are fan of goo and repetitive strain injury. I agree with broksababe totally. |
