Advantages: Made from durable plastic

Disadvantages: They do not work, even sitting next to each other!

When my daughter has a craze on something, it really is a crazy and you will gradually notice toys from whichever craze it is taking over the house. Toy Story is no exception to this rule and I am forever picking up bits and tidying them away.

She wanted to role play part of the film where they use walkie talkies to discover which new toys Andy has been given for his birthday and she was thrilled to receive the Buzz Lightyear Toy Story walkie talkies as a gift her birthday.

The main body of the walkie talkies is designed to be like Buzz Lightyear's space suit. It is green, white and purple like the man himself and then in the middle is a 3D like Buzz Lightyear face. The walkie talkies are made from a hard plastic and should withstand being dropped by over excited children. On the back of both of the walkie talkies is a little plastic clip so your child can clip it on to their wasitbands etc. The antennae is blue in colour with a little purple cap over the top to prevent any eye poking incidents which you just know will happen.

The walkie talkies are easy to set up and get them going. It is just a case of unscrewing the little panel at the back and connecting a 9v battery and then screwing it all back together. A 9v battery is required for both of the walkie talkies. It takes less than 2 minutes to do so no worries about impatient children with these!

The first problem I encountered with these walkie talkies was that I didn't know the distance they covered. Why did I not look at the intructions I hear you ask? Because even though these were purchased from Amazon they instructions were in every language except English. Fabulous. So it was going to be a case of working the distance and volume control alone.

I worked out that the on/off button was a little slide button on one side of each of the walkie talkies and the red light on the front of the handset lights up when it is switched on and working. On the otherside there is a button which is purple and you push this in each time you want to speak. Easy. Haha at not needing any instructions!

My husband took over in playing with these with our daughter. I think he was just as excited as she was to be honest! My daughter ran down one end of the house to the bathroom and my husband stayed in the lounge. Now I must stress that our house is not massive and from the way it is laid out you can see the bathroom from the living room so the walkie talkies were being used at a practical distance and probably not out of range.

Both husband and daughter were pressing the button on the side and talking into them but were getting nothing but static. They couldn't hear each other. They tried for a good 20 minutes before my husband went and got my daughter from the bathroom more than ready to chuck the walkie talkies out of the window. A while later my husband sat down side by side with my daughter and try to get them to work that way but even sitting next to each other these things just would not work.

These walkie talkies are complete rubbish and just do not work. We sent them back to Amazon as they were a complete waste of £9.99. Definately avoid these and buy something else. Rubbish is the only word good enough for them.
