Advantages: Cute looking, ideal christening gift

Disadvantages: NOne

We had our daughter baptised when she was four months old and on the day, she received quite a few christening gifts from friends and family, all of which were lovely but I did have a soft spot for this gift - a Portmeirion Very Hungry Caterpillar Money Box, which my daughter actually was given along with a hardback edition of the book. I don't know how much exactly this money box costs, but I have seen it available on line in and around the £10 mark, and given that it is something that should last my daughter through her childhood I think it is a good value gift.

I love the Very Hungry Caterpillar story and if the story itself hadn't been bought to my little girl, I would have bought it anyhow, so having a lovely bright picture of the caterpillar on the front of this white porcelain moneybox made it extremely cute and attractive in my eyes and perfect for either a little boy or a little girl as the story has mass appeal.

Another thing I really liked about the gift was that this money box comes with a beautiful gift box, with its very own little caterpillar on the front. It is far too good a box to simply ditch, and it is a good enough size to be used to keep little momentos etc. I actually use it to store my little girls hair clips and baubles and she knows exactly where they are kept now and can reach for the box herself when I fix her hair in the morning.

The slot at the top of the box isn't huge but then again that is a good thing so as money don't come out easily if it is tipped. My daughter gets given little money gifts from grandparents at times and everything goes into this box for her to use as she chooses when she is old enough to understand. I find it easy to get in coins and notes, and although we have had no need to take money out of the box, there is a stopper that can be removed to withdraw money, before closing up the box to start saving again.

All in all, this is a beautiful money box and I am so glad my daughter received it. It is ideal to keep little money gifts she gets at the moment and then when she is old enough she can take control of her savings herself. THe moneybox itself is very cute as is the useful box that it comes in and it looks perfect in her room.

Summary: A beautiful money box for a child
