      A great little toy!

As you all must know by now I spend my Sundays on the prom in Llandudno in all sorts of weather selling souvenirs for the RNLI.

Amongst all the gifts that we sell there is quite a range of toys and one of our volunteers loves to sit and play with them to show passing children how they work ! It works as well - she sells an extraordinary amount for us!

One of our latest additions is the RNLI Wind up Lifeboat and Jigsaw which costs £3.95 from our stall or any other lifeboat shop around the country. They are also available from the RNLI website at www.rnli.org.uk but you would have to pay postage of £3.95 on top of the purchase price.

This toy is made up of a square nine piece jigsaw which, when put together, has a circular ridge set into it. There is then a little lifeboat on three wheels with an animal sitting in it which you wind up, place the single front wheel in the ridge and round it goes. Obviously the jigsaw needs to be on a flat surface.

When you buy this toy it is packed in a clear acetate box which has a small cardboard box at one end which contains the jigsaw pieces. There is a little picture on the box to show you what the jigsaw should look like when it is finished but we managed to do ours without even looking at it! LOL! As I said there were only nine pieces so it was a case of putting the one non straight piece in the middle and attaching the other eight around it!

At the other end of the box there is a little tray in which sits the wheeled lifeboat, There is a range of different little animals driving the lifeboat - we have seen a cat, a mouse, a pig, a cow, a sheep and a dog so far I don't know if there are any more. They also come in a range of colours too.

Once the jigsaw is complete it measures 7 inches (17cm) square and the picture inside the circular track is a sort of cartoon depiction of a lifeboat launch together with the air sea rescue helicopter overhead and the words 'Jr crew' along the bottom right hand edge.

There are four further drawings in the corners of the jigsaw - top left is cliffs, to right is a road, bottom left is a lifeguard's van and bottom right is a helmsman - the man who controls the inshore lifeboat.

The little lifeboat measures 2.5 inches by 2 inches by 1.5 inches (6cm by 5cm by 4cm) and has a blue base with an orange top. The little character sits inside and the winder is white and is set into the side of the little boat. The boat has three wheels - one in the middle at the front and two at the back, one on either side. As I said earlier you just twist the winder a few times make sure that the front wheel of the boat is in the ridge on the jigsaw and let it go and it will drive round and round.

This toy is recommended for children aged three and over. As I say we have opened one to display on the stall so that we can show people how it works and we have all enjoyed having a go with it and we are aged from mid fifties up to over ninety!

They are very popular and we have already sold out from our first order and have now ordered another box full. I know it is a bit early but it would make an excellent stocking filler for Christmas!

So there you are then - that's our latest toy and it is a winner! Of course the profits all go towards running the lifeboat service so you are indirectly helping to save lives by buying any or our gifts.

By the way I don't know why Dooyoo haven't put a picture on this category for me as I did direct them to the RNLI site but the actual link if you want to take a look at this toy is www.rnlishop.org.uk/weddings/gifts-for-children /info/wind-up-lifeboat-and-jigsaw/512133.html (There should not be a space between children and / but it wouldn't be accepted by Dooyoo without it)
