      A reasonable novelty gift

I got a Dead Fred pen holder as a Secret Santa gift from a work colleague. Coincidently it is in a very similar vein to a knife block I had also got for Christmas - I makes me wonder what people think of me!

Now Fred is most definitely dead. By the looks of it he has been shot in the chest and collapsed in the classic cartoon style dead man pose, even including the X X eyes. The idea of Fred is not to nurse him back to health, but rather to stab your pen in his wound, and it will jut upwards in the air and, hopefully, prevent you from misplacing it.

Fred is 6 inches tall, but as he is laying down, he only raises about 1 inch off the desk. I raid the work stationary cupboards rather than bring in my own fancy pen, but I have yet to find a biro style pen that doesn't fit in Fred, but people with fancy fountain pens may not find it suitable.

Fred could be improved by having more options for where you store the pen, for those time you are particularly stressed. I have in fact modified mine a couple of times by sticking a small picture of someone annoying over the face - much more satisfying! But be careful if it is a picture of your boss!!

For the price (around £7-8) this is a decent quality novelty item, but it is nothing more than that.

A nice unusual little stocking filler or gift

I quite like unusual quirky stuff so when I saw this, I had to get one! I'm always looking for a pen as well so it's a good place for me to store mine.

He is approximately 5 inches long, and made of rubbery material. He has two X's for eyes (typical of cartoon depictions showing dead people), in a lifelike pose of how a dead person might lie after being stabbed, and he has a hole on the right side of his chest ('heart-side') where you can insert your pen or pencil.

He can get quite dusty to his rubbery nature, but it is easy enough to wipe him with a tissue or wet cloth.

Dead Fred is manufactured and designed by Suck UK who have loads of other cool funky stuff on sale. I think Dead Fred was the first in the range of 'dead' people (Splat Stan coaster and Hanging Harry lightpull are other variants).

A perfect little stocking filler for gifts, or just for yourself!

A bit of fun for the office at work and helps to get shut of stress.

        *My Dooyoo Product Suggestion*

        ~ Personal Experience ~

I know these types of novelty items are a bit stupid and not very sensible but still they make me giggle. The dead Fred penholder just adds a bit of humour to the office or wherever it may be.

My little dead Fred lies on my desk next to my brew and is a great way of storing your most valuable pen as they do tend to go missing quite a bit in the office. It is also a great item to have when you are quite stressed at work and you want to take your frustration out on something. Simple just stab Fred with your pen in the allocated hole in dead Fred and you get great satisfaction.

You get Fred in red which is my favourite colour. He looks as if he has been shot and has fallen to the ground and that is the only way to describe Fred. I call mine Sir Fred (after the RBS pension's malarkey).

        ~ Price & Shop ~

You can buy Fred from Amazon.co.uk along with many other similar items which are quite amusing. The price here is around £8 along with free shipping which isn't too bad for a bit of fun in my opinion. I like to buy from here as it is normally quite reliable and you get your items in one piece so I would recommend you buy from this website if at all possible.

        ~ Dimensions of Fred ~

He measures around 13cm in length and will hold most types of pens, although if you have a monster pen (bigger than your little finger) you might struggle to stab dead Fred with your pen.

        ~ Recommendations ~

Obviously not suitable to give this to your young children as you don't want to give them the idea that they can go around stabbing people with pens. I would say it is more designed for those who like to have a chuckle every now and then.

It can be a little graphic but still helps you in times of great distress at work.

        ~ In my opinion ~

This is a very cute and quite a humorous novelty item which we all like every now and then. The price isn't too bad and even if you know someone who would like this as a gift then I would recommend you buy them this as a little extra present (Secret Santa).

I love my dead Fred and keeps me happy at work. Most of my pens fit into Fred but unfortunately my scissors don't but I didn't expect them too anyway. I would buy from Amazon as they are reliable and sell this at a good price.
Not really suitable for children but great for those adults with minds which are easily pleased.
