Argos Pine Toddler Bed Frame
by PerfectPeaches When it was time for my daughter to finally come out of her cot and into a proper bed we decided to have a look around at what toddler beds were available. Of course there are plenty to choose from ranging in a wide variety of prices which of course does not make the choosing any easier. After a chance visit to our local Argos store we ... noticed the pine toddler bed which seemed quite sweet and not as bulky as some we had seen. I'd always wanted quite a simple toddler bed for my daughter which was one plain colour, I'm really not into character beds or the larger bulky style beds so when I spotted the pine in pale pink I was eager to purchase it! The bed comes in either pale pink, pale blue or white and is a very reasonable £69.99 (without the mattress). We were able to collect in store but you would need a big car or small van as although the box is quite slim it is also quite long. The bed does come flat packed so be prepared for a little DIY. I must say though I managed to put the bed together myself and on my own so it is possible! The instruction leaflet can be found inside the box and are pretty straightforward with step by step instructions. If you can use a drill for the screws then great but I used a screwdriver and worked just fine. The bed took me just over an hour to put together which for me was fine, the time is generally taken screwing down the slats. However, once built you are left with quite a sturdy little pine toddler bed in a lovely pale pink lacquered finish. Given its slightly cheaper price tag than some other toddler beds you can get I certainly wasn't disappointed in the quality at all. Each part I put together was well finished off, no rough or jagged edges and the paint wasn't damaged anywhere so I can't really complain at all. Once fully constructed it's dimensions are 75cm (W) x 146cm (L) x 57cm (H). To look at the bed is incredibly simple it is one plain colour and has the quarter sized bed guards on either side with slim round spindles (these can be taken off from the bed itself should you not want them on anymore). The top and bottom end of the bedframe is slightly curved to give a little shape and again there are the same spindles as are on the bed guards. Yes, the bed is incredibly basic but it was just what I was looking for, almost quite a chic style which suits my daughter's room perfectly. My daughter has had this bed for about a year as she was moved to a bed at around 19 months and it looks exactly the same as when I first put it together. The paint has worn incredibly well and shows no signs of any wear or tear and the slats are still in perfect condition (good job as my daughter does bounce around a lot on her bed!). The frame has never needed tightening up at any time and is still incredibly sturdy. My daughter's mattress fortunately was the right size for the bed and fits just nicely on top of the slats. I clean the bed on a regular basis as we all know children tend to have sticky little fingers and because it does have lacquered finish I do find any little marks come off so easily with a damp cloth and it won't stain the wood/paint or rub it off. My only tiny little gripe which is my own personal gripe is that my daughter's Tomy bed guard does fit quite as well as it should as it is a little too long to fit perfectly due to the guard rails already on the bed and although it fits as well as it can I would have thought most parents making the transition to a toddler bed would use another bed guard and the bed currently doesn't easily accommodate one. However, on the whole I really cannot complain whatsoever about the quality of the item and a year later it still looks good as new and is going strong. It is incredibly reasonable at £69.99 and although it probably isn't the top of the range toddler bed it suits my and my daughter's needs perfectly. She has always been happy in it right from day one so to me this was definitely a great buy. 4 stars from me, only knocking off one because of the bed guard issue. == Useful Information == Age Range: Suitable for ages 18 months to 4 years. Argos Pine Toddler Bed Frame
by wazza115 When Lauren was ready to progress from her cot to a bed, we purchased a toddler bed from Argos. Spotting this one online, we thought it was the perfect option and decided to purchase. The bed currently retails for £69.99, it is available online (but subject to a £5.99 delivery charge) or in store. I found this was quite a good ... price and at the lower end of the price range for a toddler bed. One of the things I like about Argos is that you can check and reserve stock online so you don't end up having a wasted journey. The bed is available in several different colour options, blue, white pink and pine. The frame itself is really chunky and made of pine which has been sprayed in a nice baby pink colour. When assembled, it measures 75 cm (W) x 146 cm (L) x 57 cm (H). The bed comes complete with built in bed guards which run down both sides of the bed which means you can position the bed where you like in the room. The bed rails measure around 40cm and had the same slatted effect as the headboard and the foot on the bed. The gaps between the slats weren't too small so I wasn't concerned that Lauren could get stuck in any way. The bed it slightly lower than your average single bed which meant Lauren found it really easy to get in and out of bed all on her own. Although the bed was lower, I was still able to put some storage containers with toys underneath. The bed is advertised as being suitable from ages 18 months to 4 years, we started using when Lauren was 2 and there was plenty of growing room for her. I am told that assembling the bed was really easy; I don't get involved in any DIY but my other half disappeared upstairs for an hour or so to build. There wasn't any unpleasant moaning or any shouts for assistance and he said it was pretty straightforward to build. All the parts were needed and although he didn't follow them, the instructions were basic and resembled the process needed to build. The base of the bed has slats which I can sometimes find a little less sturdy however these were quite secure as they were screwed into place. The other half did comment that a few of the slats were missing screw holes but being a man with many power tools, this didn't faze him. Because there were so many screws, he did say he wouldn't like to have to build if he didn't have his electric tools. Although I cannot fault the actual product itself, I didn't like the concept of the toddler bed and I wish I had done a little more research before I purchased. I like to read Lauren a book every night in bed, when she was smaller, she would sit on my knee but as she got bigger, I wanted to lye in bed with her. Because the dimensions are smaller than your average single bed, I found it uncomfortable to get in bed with her at night. My other half who is about 6ft 6in had no chance! I was also concerned that the bed would not take both our combined weight so I used to sit on the floor and read to her while she lay in bed. Another downside was that we had to buy a special sized mattress and bedding which aren't widely available and have limited choice options; I also found that although we were buying a smaller mattress and bedding, the costs didn't reflect this and in some instances, they actually cost more than if I was buying for a single bed. For these reasons, in the end, we sold this after a few weeks and invested in a single bed with a bed guard. Even though I was disappointed with the bed, Lauren actually loved it, she liked it that it was pink (a bit like me, she likes everything pink) and loved that she was now in a big girls bed. Overall, the bed offers good value for money, looks nice and does what it should, the disappointment I felt was due to the concept of a toddler bed and not the product itself therefore I would give it 5 out of 5 stars. Thanks for reading and I hope this helps. Read the complete review |

Pine Wooden Moses Basket Rocking Stand
by daisylee3 A moses basket stand isn't an essential item for most new parents however as I have four very curious and playful dogs, putting my baby in her moses basket on the floor was completely out of the question. I bought my daughter's moses basket from Toys R Us and their stands were quite pricey so I decided to have a look around ... and I ended up with this one from Argos. It mainly appealed to me because it was cheap but I also loved that it rocks from front to back and I much preferred this to the rigid version which didn't rock. I paid £19.99 for the stand and the current retail price is £21.93. The stand comes flat packed with various attatchments and it took my boyfriend and my brother around 15 minutes to assemble and the instruction manual looked nice and simple. The stand once built is nice and sturdy. The stand is very basic in design which I like as it didn't clash with my babies cream moses basket, nor did it clash with the nursery or living room decor and seeing as we used this both up and downstairs in different rooms the neutral, minimalistic look suited us nicely. Although it is basic in design it does look much more expensive than it was and you can tell by looking at it that it is made from natural wood rather than cheap synthetic material. The subtle glossy finish makes it look that bit better as well and it is smooth to the touch. Although it is very sturdy and well made it isn't too heavy and my boyfriend was easily able to carry it up and downstairs as it isn't too bulky. I must admit that I did struggle carrying it up and down stairs especially during the first few weeks of having my baby but it was do-able and not too tiring. There is only one colour available - a natural pale pine wood meaning that it will not clash with the design of your babies moses basket or look out of place. The stand can fit any moses basket and the basket is held securely in place by the two sturdy plastic attatchments that are on both ends of the stand. My daughter had the I love my bear moses basket and it fitted onto the stand perfectly and once on it felt secure and I never had any worries about the stand being flimsy or anything. The stand rocks from side to side gently and smoothly and it rocked easily with a little push but if Erin was fidgetting it would barely budge. My daughter was tiny when she was newborn at just under six pounds although as she grew the stand would sway slightly more to one side when rocking if she was cuddled up to the edge of it which although noticeable didn't make me worry that it might topple over or anything. The rocking motion effectively helped to ease my baby back to sleep on many occasions which saved me from having to get out of bed and pick her up meaning that my sleep wasn't disturbed too much. We used this stand daily for around three months and after that we started putting the moses basket in her cot so only used this down stairs and we stopped using it completely when she was around four months. It came in very handy and I found that the height was perfect - I would usually put it at the side of the sofa and if I was sitting down I would easily be able to reach over and scoop Erin out for her feeds etc and when standing I didn't need to bend down. The maximum weight is 9kg which I think is a decent limit as most babies will be out of their moses baskets by time they hit this weight. Overall this is a stylish, well made and durable moses basket stand which is excellent value for money. Read the complete review |
