Mothercare My Jungle Family Moses Basket
by Decanus
My wife has always liked Mothercare and the quality of their products, so when it was time to look for a moses basket that is where we looked; as you would expect the range is extensive, so choosing one can be tricky.
Luckily, we (ok, my wife) already had a theme planned for the baby's bedroom, that of jungle animals. The wallpaper ... was jungle-themed, curtains etc, so when we saw the 'My Jungle' moses basket it was an obvious choice (a close contender was the Argos 'Safari' range, which includes a moses basket, but we decided we could trust the quality of the Mothercare basket more)
First impressions were very good; it seemed well made, sturdy, and not too heavy. The carry handles are a nice size and well placed as well. The basket itself is 'dressed corn-husk', and has what we thought was very generous padding, obviously important for a very young baby. Also important (if not more so!) is the fact that the mattress is foam and wipe-clean, so any accidents can be quickly wiped away.
The basket also has a moveable canopy, and included is a nice quilt (2.5 tog), which is perfect for daytime naps. The jungle themed insert can be removed and washed, (and it will be, quite a lot!). Obviously, as you would expect, everything is certified up to British Standards, and 100% cotton. The final touch is that three hanging, plush toys come with the basket, and they will get a lot of use!
Mothercare recommend the basket up to a maximum of 3-4 months, I think we used it about 2 1/2 months or so, before our one got too wriggly for it.
All in all, an excellent buy. The fact it is part of a wide range of 'jungle' themed items is also a plus, as I know mums like to coordinate pretty much everything!
A final plus for us was that, although pricier than some rival baskets, it has re-sale value second hand, so it ended up being fantastic value for money. Read the complete review |

Mothercare My Jungle Family Moses Basket
by caroline81
I bought this moses basket as I was looking for something gender neutral but wanted the nursery in bright colours as a think the usual cream / brown is uninteresting and dull for a baby who is discovering the world around them.
This basket really looks the part and every one who visited commented on how lovely, bright and ... unusual it was. The basket it self is made of corn husk and has two handles attached one at either side for carrying, the mattress is wipe clean, the hood can be adjusted and it comes with a little duvet.
My son used this basket from birth until he was nearly 3 months old as he is quite a chunky monkey he could no longer fit into it, but the Mothercare website recommends from - 3/4 months or until baby can pull him/herself up right.
The basket is dressed in 100 percent cotton which is white and covered in jungle characters in orange, yellow, blue and green. It has 3 plush toys hanging from the hood two shaped like little pumpkins one in orange and one in blue, and a multicoloured parrot in the middle. My son loved to look at the parrot and as he got older he would talk to it and try to grab hold of it, it kept him entertained for a while.
I found the duvet supplied was too small, I wasn't able to cover my son and tuck him in, and so my son could kick it off far too easily, so I ended up using other blankets.
The biggest down side for me was the hood, it would keep falling down even with it tightened by two little plastic knobs either side of it. This happened more often as my son got bigger, he would thrash about in it more, causing the hood to fall down, he would then get upset as he couldn't see the plush toys.
I did not buy the matching stand to go with the basket as I found they where all similar and bought a cheaper version so I am unable to comment on how easy it would be to set up on the matching stand. Read the complete review |
