Disney Princess Go Glow Story Projector

I came across the Disney Princess Go Glow Story Projector on Amazon shortly before my daughters fifth birthday. It was reduced to the bargain price of £12.60, my daughter loves Disney Princesses and we had been in the midst of transforming her bedroom in to a Disney Princess bedroom at the time - therefore this was a must have! I wasn't ... too sure how she would react to receiving a 'light' for a present, but I was very pleased at how thrilled she was! In fact it was probably the best present that I brought for her!
The projector is made by Worlds Apart who also manufacture childrens play tents, storage solutions, clocks, night lights, beds and furniture. It is available at many retailers (Amazon, Play.com, Boots, Tesco etc) and generally costs around £20.00. It is suitable for children 2+ years and comes packaged in a princess perfect (plastic fronted) cardboard box.
The Disney Princess Go Glow Story Projector is 3 things in 1 - a night light, a torch and a story projector. So handy and great value for money!
I assumed the Go Glow Story Projector ran off batteries but was over the moon when I realised that you get an adapter to charge the light from the mains. This adapter plugs in to the base of the light and charges it. There is a small light on the base which glows red when it's charging - the red light is easy to see when it's dim but isn't so easy to see in the daytime (minor downside). The night light can be used without any charge, so long as it's plugged in to the mains (the projector and torch need to be pre-charged before use). I quite often leave the base plugged in, just so it never runs out of charge, although I must say that the charge time is quite fast and generous. It comes with 2 small film reels, with 6 scenes from Beauty and The Beast and 6 scenes from Cinderella (there is a slot in the base to store them away safety). It is mostly pink in colour and features 3 of the most popular Disney Princesses - Belle, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty (no Snow White or newer princesses though).
To use as a night light, you must keep the light in the base and press the small button on the side of the light. It lets off a warm glow - nothing too bright that would affect my daughter getting to sleep, but just enough to make her feel comfortable when she's alone in her bedroom. The princesses all appear lit up and it looks very pretty indeed.
To use as a torch, you must remove the light from the base and press the small button on the side of the light. The torch is pretty powerful when used in total darkness. My daughter uses it to guide herself to the toilet in the night! It is an absolute essential as far as we're concerned.
To use as a projector, you must keep the light in the base, choose a film reel, insert it in to the slot on the side of the light and press the small button on the side. You can then slide the reel around and see different scenes being projected on the ceiling! My daughter has a plain white ceiling (normal sized) and the pictures appear clear and bright. As I've already mentioned, you need to make sure it's not running low on charge otherwise the pictures will appear faded. My daughter absolutely adores this feature and I've often walked in her bedroom to find her flicking through projections on her ceiling! This can be a little frustrating at first (when you're trying to get your child off to sleep!) but it's lovely to see them enjoying themselves on their own, plus the novelty will wear off a little after a while. It's a bit of a shame the projections don't automatically change (instead of by hand) as I imagine this would send children off to sleep in no time! The pictures are lovely and pretty - they are sure to please all Disney Princess fans.
Soon after receiving her projector, my daughter was able to independently use it. It's very easy to use and is very reliable, we have been using it every night for about 6 months now. As I already mentioned it's great value for money - a night light, torch and projector for around 20 pounds (or less). Not only is it very useful for young children but it's fun too. When it's not in use (in the daytime) it sits on my daughters bedside table looking pretty and also matches the rest of her Disney Princess bedroom. I thoroughly recommend to all little princesses.

Millie and Boris Light Shade

When we were expecting our first baby we did the worst (well expensive) thing you can do by deciding on a theme for the nursery, namely Millie and Boris, a rabbit and bear from Mamas and Papas. It is a beige neutral shade that would suit a boy or a girl and they sell everything you can imagine in this theme.
The M&B ... range
I managed to source loads of Millie and Boris stuff on ebay and although there is a slight variation between the years of M&B it is a consistent colour. So for example, the tie backs from the curtains are slightly different to the 2012 lamp shade.
The final fitting
Our daughter is now 14 months old and we have moved house in that time and her room is slightly smaller and we did manage to squeeze in most of the furniture but had left the neutral shade behind so wanted to get her a shade for her room that went with the theme. We visited the M&P shop and liked the M&B shade but it was expensive so we looked around for a bit to see if there was anything else we liked. In the end we returned to buy the shade as it was the nicest one we had seen, and it matched her curtains, bedding and other bits we had from the M&B range.
Looks like...
The shade is beige and has Millie on one side and Boris on the other. Their legs sort of dangle off the bottom of the shade so it gives it a more 3D effect. There are also stars cut out of the shade to make reflections on the walls. The whole shade is cylindrical in shape and gives a decent amount of shade so you are not looking up at bare bulb which can be harsh, especially in a nursery.
Material and technical bits
The shade is made from a nice suede material that should last many years. It is recommended that you use no more than a 60W bulb with this shade which is plenty of light for her room.
Price
The lampshade is now reduced on the M&P website to £22.40 but we did pay the full price of £28. Whilst it is a high quality lampshade, it's probably closer to £20 than £30's worth.
My thoughts
You really do get sucked in to theming a room during pregnancy and in retrospect I wish we had just chosen a colour to go with as we did feel like we needed to get everything from the M&B range (although we didn't!). It is quite expensive when they are not on sale. Having moaned about that, it does look really nice and is quality stuff. The shade is beautiful and finishes the room off to a nice standard. You can always sell M&B items on ebay afterwards if they are still in good nick.
Final word
I love the Millie and Boris range and do enjoy looking at the lampshade when we are in the nursery. It is a shame that her nursing chair doesn't fit in the room as we could rock and enjoy the mood lighting and environment that the shade provides. It is a high quality item and looks nicer than a plain shade. If friends and family want to buy presents for the baby's birth it is handy to have a theme ready so you can suggest items to them.
