Advantages: Soothing sounds, excellent projection with canopy for younger babies, cute animal theme

Disadvantages: Quite expensive (but worth it) & useless remote

When i decided it was time to move my son from his moses basket to his own bedroom and his cot i was expecting a few rough nights whilst he got used to it.

To make this process a little easier i decided to get him a mobile for the cot.
As my son is addicted to the lights of the TV i thought he might find a projection mobile soothing.

I went to Babies R Us as i had a £5 off voucher which you recieve with their Gold Card (a points system, a bit like Boots).

The only one i could find was the Fisher Price Precious Planet 2 in 1 Projection Mobile, at a price of £48.99 i was slightly put off.
I hadn't planned on spending that much, however i have bought the Fisher Price Rainforest Play Gym before which was also expensive but worth every penny, so i decided to go for it.

This Mobile is a music box, projection and a mobile all in one.

It comes with a canopy which the images are projected on so that a small baby can still see it well (if it was on the ceiling a young baby cannot focus that far), this canopy has 4 toys hanging from it - a crocodile, a lion, a whale and a polar bear.
When your child is 5 months it is recommended that you remove the canopy and let the images project on the ceiling for safety reasons (this is the same with all normal mobiles too, as baby starts to sit up)

It has 3 sounds - one is a heartbeat which the baby would have heard in the womb, the second is seaside sounds (waves, seagulls) and the third is classical music. All three are soothing and there is two volume settings.
You can choose which sound you want easily by pressing one of 3 buttons on the base unit.

There is 3 settings where you can choose different combinations
1) mobile roatation, music & projection
2) mobile rotation & music
3) projection & music

The projection images are of different cartoon animals which rotate through a sequence.

The mobile/music/projection will play for a maximum of 20mins before slowly turning itself off....projection and mobile stop first, then music stops a minute or two later so baby isn't "shocked" awake by it stopping immediatly.

This Mobile also comes with a remote, which has one simple button for on/off. This means you can turn it on from the doorway without your baby seeing you. Which is a helpful idea, but doesn't work very well.
Although you can turn the sensor on the base unit to point towards the door, the remote is still pretty useless and only works "when it feels like it".
You can still switch it on and off at the base unit.

This piece of equipment requires four D batteries for the base unit and two AA batteries for the remote.

My son adores this mobile and is transfixed by it, more often than not he is asleep within a couple of minutes.
He seems to prefer the heartbeat sound at the moment, this could be because he is still young - 11 weeks.
I turn the mobile on in his dark room whilst i give him his bedtime bottle, where he can just see the light from it, so he is calm before i even put him in his cot

Summary: An excellent buy, will give you a sleepy happy baby and make bedtimes a calmer experience.
