Glider Nursing Chair and Stool
Advantages: So comfy
Disadvantages: Could trap little fingers
This is a review of the nursing chair and matching stool we bought in preparation for our first baby. I had heard good reviews of these chairs and made the mistake of sitting in a similar model in the John Lewis baby department and it felt like heaven so I had to have one!
The chair is very well padded. This is important, especially around the arm area as there will be pressure on arms or elbows when feeding baby. The chair is covered in a tough but soft cream (also available in brown) cord material which you can sponge clean. I have managed to keep mine very clean in the time I have had it in use. The chair is adjustable on the back so you can recline it to the position which best suits you. It sits on a parallel base which enables it to glide (rather than rock) backwards and forwards. The real magic starts when you put the matching foot stool in use which also glides with the motion of the chair. You feel so relaxed and supported and in a great position to relax or feed your baby. The motion helps both mother and baby to chill out.
There is a small amount of assembly required with the chair and stool but my husband had it sorted very quickly and said it was easy. He is good at these things and I take him for granted sometimes!
At the moment, the chair is available on the Kiddicare website priced £109.99 and it says the RRP is £239.99 all these chairs seem to have ridiculous RRPs but if you shop around you can get a better deal. We bought ours a year and a half ago for around £125.

The chair is spindly and there is potential for trapped little fingers if you had a toddler too you need to be careful. The seat of the chair is snug around my UK16 hips and behind too. Especially postpartum you may need to try one out before you buy if you are larger than this. We have had to warn visitors not to sit on the stool either as we were afraid it would break as it is designed to support leg weight, not that of a whole person.
I wanted to look after this chair as I planned to sell it once I had finished with it. I enjoyed sitting in it but didn't particularly use it to feed the baby after a few tries. I found it more comfortable to sit with the baby on a pillow but everyone finds their own way I suppose. The other thing to consider is the amount of space this chair takes up. We managed to squeeze it in our nursery but then moved house and it spent ages in storage before we found room in another bedroom for it. I wasn't ready to part with the chair yet though!
I think you can manage without one of these chairs if you have a baby but they are really comfy to sit in and I enjoyed gliding in it when I was bored and towards the end of my pregnancy. I never managed to fall asleep in it though! There are a lot of similar chairs on the market that will perhaps be a bit cheaper but please do your research before buying as it's all in the padding whether it is comfy or not! Ours is well padded but I can still feel the spindles on the back of the chair through the cushion.
Summary: not essential but a nice addition to your nursery
