Gro-Egg Room Thermometer
Advantages: A very handy quick early warning system for room temperature
Disadvantages: No batrery option, must be plugged into mains!
This is one of those gadgets that, when my daughter was born, my wife simply insisted we had and, at a current price of a little over £13, is an absolute must-buy if you have just had a new addition to your household!
The idea is basically that this little light, which also serves as a night-light and plugs into the mains, alerts you at a glance to the temperature in your baby's room! That way, you can know instantly whether or not a room is too hot or too cold and also your child has a soothing light to keep him or her feeling comforted during the night!
We found that by placing this Egg in a corner of the room away from the cot, this light provided enough illumination to see by without being too intruding and keeping your new born awake. If it begins to glow red, then you know the room is getting too warm, glowing blue indicates that a room is too cold. The optimal colour you are loking for here is a yellow hue which indicates that the room is adequately warmed without going too far either way. And it doesn't just jump from yellow to red either; in between there is an orange colour the egg adopts giving you plenty of notice that the room is starting to heat up!
There is also a tempature reading on the side of the egg so you can see exactly how warm the room is and this is another good idea. You do not always want to be lugging room thermometers around and this does three jobs in one: it soothingly lights up the room, gives you an early warning if the room is getting too warm and also provides you with the ambient tempature.
Some have commented that these can be a bit tempermental and stop working or give inaccurrate readings but I have never found this to be the case with ours! Some seem to love it, some to hate it! Personally I think it is an innovative idea and a nice, subtle design.
This was ideal for any temperature concerns we had in our baby's room. My only criticism, and one a few have pointed out, is that it only plugs into the mains and there is no battery option! That means you need to have it near a plug, though the lead that comes with it is perfectly a decent length so you don't have to be THAT close, and that during the day whilst baby is crawling around it is perhaps best to unplug and put it out of the way somewhere until nap or bed-time!
Overall, this was one of our best baby buys and I fully reccommend it!
Summary: Clever, neat and very very handy!
