Ikea Forsiktig Children's Stool
Disadvantages: None for us
A trip to Ikea in my experience means coming out with a selection of items I didn't know I needed till I wondered around the store and the day I discovered the Forsiktig Children's Stool. It is a white with a slight curve and is 15cm tall. It is made of hollow white plastic with blue dots .This does mean it is does generally fit in with most colour schemes.
When we purchased it my son was two and doing a little potty training. I have found this item to be very adaptable. We have used it in the bathroom but my son uses it to climb in the bath independently climb onto the toilet and puts it by the sink to wash and brush his teeth and wash his hands. It has two holes in each side for easy lifting and he finds it easy to move around the bathroom on his own. He has bought it downstairs on occasions to try and climb on things but I am not happy with him carrying it around the house and tell him to keep it in the bathroom. This has increased my son's confidence and independence.
The stool itself does feel quite robust and when I have stood on it does feel like it is bending slightly but is certainly strong enough for me son to stand on without fear of It breaking. It also has a non slip blue lip around the bottom which does seem to work on out vinyl floor. The step is easily wipe able and does need regularly wiping over with an anti bacterial spray and cloth.
The curve design does make it fit well around the toilet and though the edge of the bath is straight as it is only a slight curve so it doesn't really have any negative impact. The blue spots on the top of the step are designed to add none slip protection. These do only come in one colour and my son at the moment is in the stage of pink is girls colour and blue is a boys colour so I am not sure how he would get on with it if it was only available in pink.
My son has owned his step for over a year and still continues to use it around the bathroom and is able to go to the toilet at home without my presence. It is wide enough for his feet to fit completely on the step but don't think this will be the case for much longer He did fall last week when he tried to climb on the toilet by standing on the edge of a plastic box full of bath toys so I did remind him to use the step and he has since been using it again full time but it does also reinforce the safety and security by these items.
I think this is a bargain for £1.99 and would recommend it for anyone with a small child. This is one Item i definitely did need but didn't know it.
