Ikea Kritter Bed with Guard Rail
Advantages: Fantastic price!
I recently revamped my daughters room and as she was ready for a bed that was next on my list. We have all the Mammut furniture and it was my intention to get the matching bed however when I measured it I decided it would take up far too much space and even though my daughter has a decent sized room I didn't want it overloaded with furniture.
I saw this on the Ikea website for just £55 which I thought was great value. You can choose from pine or blue which have a dog and a cat on the headboard or white which has sheep on the headboard. I chose white as it was more serviceable and matched the room theme better. Included in the price you pay is the guard rail and also the wooden slats for under the bed.
When assembled the bed measures;
Length: 165 cm
Width: 75 cm
The size of it is fairly decent when assembled and I can see this lasting a good few years, I myself can lie down on it and my feet just hang over, I am 5 ft 6 so I was confident this will last my daughter a good few years. The only thing that you do need to buy separately is a mattress and these range from £25 to £80 I chose a more expensive mattress as I wanted to make sure my daughter was comfortable.
The bed comes in one box the slats are packaged separately so you need to make sure you remember to pick them up. I had to borrow a car to actually get it home as it was too big for my car. It fit nicely in a Citreon C4 Picasso. It wasn't too heavy to lift and I actually carried it into the house myself.
The bed was really easy to assemble it took me about 45 minutes, you get an alan key included in the box and you need a philips head screwdriver. The frame was easy to move once it was constructed too which enabled me to position it where I wanted in the bedroom. The bed is made of solid wood and when I was putting it together it felt sturdy and of good quality. The headboard is a nice touch with the two sheep. The guard on the bed can be placed either side and it doesn't leave any marks on the wood so eventually when it isn't needed anymore it can be removed.
Once I had assembled the bed I made it up with my daughters new Hello Kitty duvet set. The first time she saw the bed she was very excited. She could easily get on and off as it was low to the floor. It is also high enough to fit underbed storage boxes which free up space especially if you have a smaller room.
My daughter slept in the bed the first night no problem and for the first few weeks it was a novelty for her she constantly wanted to sit in the bed and snuggle under the duvet.
I have sat on the bed a few times when I have been in her room as has my partner and the bed is solid. It can easily take the weight of an adult and in fact one night I managed to fall asleep in there with her when she was ill and I am pleased to say I had a decent nights sleep.
The bed looks lovely in her room and is easy to keep clean with just a quick wipe over.
I would definitely recommend this, compared to other beds I looked at this is slightly larger so will last longer and is of good quality for the money.
