I am always looking for different bits and pieces for my sons room, things to engage the senses and things that look nice too. Ikea is a great place to look for things like this as a lot of their design ideas area little different and quirky.
I had been looking at his bed camopy for a few times on our regular trips and took the plunge last may to buy one to try over my sons bed. I paida mear £8.99, which i thought was a really reasonable price for something that looks so funky!!
Ikea is an international company that originated in Sweden seling funiture, homewares, lighting, decoration and even kitchens these days. There are many designers that work for Ikea and the designers products vary greatly when buying certain ranges of products, making Ikea appealing to all budgets.
This Lova canopy can be found in the Childrens department and is displayed ready erected on the wall. As you can see from the picture it is in the shape of a leaf and is a bright green in colour. Once assembled it is quite large measuring 136cm in legnth and 90cm in width. Against a childs bed or single, it arches to around the half way point of the bed. It is made of a tent like material really, a polyester and when unpackaged comes in 2 components. In the packaging, you will find the instructions with all you will need to assemble the leaf and the instructions are easy to follow. You will find 1x legnth of tubing, much like a pole for a tent, which you need to open out and put throught the centre of the leaf. This makes the arch and gives the canaopy its height, and also becomes the base to stick the leaf to the wall.
Key features of this leaf is that, quite obviously this can be mounted on the wall above a bed, an armchair etc if you relaly wanted to, it also filters the light, creating an atmosphere without blacking out, and the touch and close fastening, meaning it is easy to put on and take off the wall.
Once you have the central pole in place in the leaf, you will find another piece of material that can be screwed to the wall. This is also covered in a dark green fabric and is the rectangular piece you can see at the bottom of the picture. Once wall mounted, you will find a wrap around velcro strip that you then place the stem of the leaf into and then stick down the velcro. Wallah, your canopy is on the wall without any sharp edges with complete safety. Once on the wall i have found that the leaf is secure and can sit as high or low as you would like over the bed.
My son loves his canopy and i have even bought a second one thiat i have placed lower on the wall in one corner of the room, thrown cushions onto the floor and it has become his little den. We read together here and sometimes place a sheet over the leaf so that he can pretend he is camping. A complete hit in our house and for such a a bargain price.
Due to the position of the leaf, you will notice over ime that it can become dusty. I have hoovered this gently and even wiped over with a damp cloth which shouldd suffice cleaning. Ikea do not recommend that you bleach, tumble dry, iron or dryclean. To be honest though, i cannot imagine how you would fit this product in your wwashing machine or tumble dryer??!!
IN conclusion, this canopy is a great price for something that looks funky and is practical too. My son finds it makes him feel more secure, probably because he is more closed in, but also one of these leaves has created a great den area that gets hours of play.
I can do nothing but give this 5/5!!
Thankyou for reading.
