When we moved house last year, we moved into a much bigger house and had much more space. Our house has been converted so what used to be the kitchen is now a second living room which we knew straight away would be perfect for the children. We had a sofa that would fit in the room but were lacking something suitable for the kids, so when I saw the Poang children's chairs at a friend's house I was eager to know where she had got them from. I couldn't believe it when she said Ikea so the very next day I popped down to the nearest store and picked two up.

Priced at £20 each they are excellent value, and a year on they look good as new despite a lot of use by two young children. As with most items from Ikea, the chairs come flat packed, but as my husband was at work when I brought them home, and I am the most impatient person in the world, I set to work building them by myself and they were so easy! They build quickly, the most difficult bit is sliding the cream cover down and over the metal frame. It is tight as this is where the child will sit and is effectively the support of the whole chair so I was satisfied that this wasn't a design flaw in any way. The covers are removable and washable (handy when the chair is cream and it's for children), but it does mean having to take them off the frame again. Getting them off is fine, its putting them back on that's a little tricky but you get there in the end. I have washed them a few times now and I've kind of got the hang of it. You can wipe it clean with a damp cloth if it isn't heavily soiled. I have done this several times, but when it has needed washing it's because something has been spilled on it. I wouldn't recommend tumble drying or washing any higher than 40 degrees as the risk of shrinking it and it not fitting the frame anymore will mean the chair becomes useless.

The birch veneer frame and cream covers mean it will fit in with any décor. We have dark wood in our living room but it still doesn't look out of place. It stands at just under 70cm tall and around 50cm wide so it hardly takes up any room either. If you were really clever, you could buy some material and remake the cover to literally fit any room, and make it more individual rather than the Ikea standard issue, I however am not very clever and wouldn't know where to start! I have accessorised the chairs with some nice little children's cushions from Next which makes the chairs look much more individual.

Support wise, these chairs are comfy and absolutely perfect for young children. When we have had friends round in an evening, I have been known to sit in one of these once or twice, and I can literally just fit myself in the chair! Men wouldn't stand a chance though, and when I have been sat in them I have wondered how long until I go through the thing! They are obviously not intended for adults (there is in fact an adults version of this chair), but they will support a heavier weight than a young child. Comfort wise they are really comfortable to sit on, and the padded head rest that you can flip over to the back if you don't want to use it, means it's perfect for quiet time (something I often insist the girls have!!).

The chairs have a slight rock to them which my children enjoy. One of my favourite memories is sneakily peaking through the door watching my youngest jigging and bouncing away to some music that she was watching on the TV, and the chair no doubt heightened her enjoyment!

For £20, you simply can't go wrong with this chair.
