When you're a new mum/mum to be you get lots of advice on what you will need/won't need/will buy and regret etc... for the new baby. Unfortunately, as every baby is different, you often don't know what you'll really use till you've already bought and tried it.

One of the things everybody said I would need was a Moses basket (and yes, it turned out to be invaluable for the first 15 weeks) but when I looked around the usual shops I was struggling to find one under £60, which is a lot of money for something that will be redundant in a matter of months. There are cheaper ones around but I was very disappointed with the quality of some of these, particularly of the wicker basket itself.

After much searching I found this one in John Lewis, the quality is every bit as good as the Mamas and Papas one I'd loved (which was £69) and although it was just plain white it was everything I needed it to be.

When I bought it a year ago it was £35, now it's on the website for an amazing £29!

It has all the normal bits and bobs - mattress, internal cover, hooded cover, handles. There is also a coverlet (like a tiny duvet) but I didn't use this in case baby pulled it over his face.

The fabric is a classic white waffle and the internal cover and coverlet are machine washable. In case of loss/damage/second baby you can buy replacement mattresses in John Lewis for £12.

I think this is an unbeatable price for reliable John Lewis quality. If you buy online it is free delivery within 5 days too.
