This Nautical lampshade from JoJo Maman Bebe was something we purchased around 6 months ago to complement our sons nautical theme nursery. We have light blue walls, white furniture and boat stickers over the walls and boat hooks so this seemed the perfect addition to add to the overall look and finish the room off. We purchased this over the internet it arrived well package with no damage to any of the fittings. It was however very creased so much so that I decided it would need an iron before fitting it as I thought it would take a long while for the creases to drop. Ironing this on a cool setting got rid of a lot of the creases and whilst it was a bit fiddly to do I thought this was well worth doing. The rest of the creases dropped out over the course of the first week of it hanging. Fitting this lampshade was easy to do it fitted our standard light fitting in our sons room with ease and it didn't take any longer than 5 minutes to fit. I was a bit concerned about fitting after reading some review on the Jojo Maman Bebe website saying it was hard to fit as the hole was too small but as it was the cutest lightshade I had seen we decided to give it a try. Jojo Maman Bebe has since said there had been a faulty batch and that to return it if they don't fit and they will replace them. The lampshade when fitted hangs down well with it having two layers this means there is a lot of material in the shade which results in a soft light coming through the shade. I personally like this muted look as it makes for lovely soft lighting if my son wakes in the night so the light. The light is still bright enough however when changing a nappy and doesn't make him think it is morning. This is especially beneficial for us as the light is over his cot. The design on the lampshade which was the appealing factor for me is very cute and has a beach hut effect. It has several boats bobbing up and down on the sea with light houses and sea birds flying overhead. These are a mixture of printed and applique detailing. It is this stitching and the mixture of looks that gives it a real quality look to the design. The material used is also of a high quality and nice and thick which helps the shade give its soft lighting look. The design I think goes well with any sea side or nautical theme bedroom or nursery as the boats are chunky looking and bold in their appearance meaning they appeal to young children. Even at 13 months my son does like to look at the boats on this when he is looking up at them or being carried in his room and points to them frequently. Whilst we have the shade and some hooks from Jojo Maman Bebe in their nautical themed nursery we have used other makes including Roommates for the wall stickers and some pictures and other accessories from Dunelm. The fact that there is a mixture of boats in his room and on the lampshade means it doesn't matter if you mix and match as it just makes it look like the a big seascape rather than everything being uniform which I think would make it look less realistic if you can call a child's room true to life. The lampshade isn't cheap at £19 however having searched the internet for nautical lampshades I found there was no cheap designs the other options being some Cath Kidson shades of Ebay which were similarly priced. However for the quality of the shade and the look it gives means I don't resent paying the price as it will last several years in my sons room. Overall I would definitely recommend this lampshade for children bedrooms and nurseries. It is well made and gives a lovely soft light effect to a room. It is bold and cheerful in its design and appeals to young children. It may be however too young in its look for children over 6 years old. For me it is going to get the full 5 stars as I just love it so much.
