Advantages: Cot looks nice and is sturdy

Disadvantages: Irregular mattress size hence bedding and mattress problems

When expecting our daughter we inherited my sister in laws cot which she used for her son. It is made by Mamas and Papas and is a nice cot, it is not cot bed sized though. It’s white and has a drop side. However it has a problem – it is bigger than most non Mamas and Papas costs so if you need a new mattress or bedding you either have to buy them from Mamas and Papas and they are quite expensive or you have to get them elsewhere in which case they tend to be more expensive than standard ones. Cot bed bedding is not the right size either.

In the end we bought a mattress made to size however not Mamas and Papas and we use normal cot bedding however it is a bit too small and requires a bit of fiddling around with, for example I put the top sheet and blankets on sideways, not ideal but much cheaper.

The other problem with this particular model is that it only has one mattress position so when baby is very young you have a long way down to reach, especially if they are asleep and you are trying to put them in the cot and not wake them.

The good side to the cot being bigger is that it will last for longer and the drop side can be removed so that it can act as a first bed.
