Advantages: lovely room accent and easy to clean
Disadvantages: kids don't say when they spill stuff on it
As we have all wood flooring in our house I knew I would have to get something to have on the floor in the kids' room. I was in Mothercare and saw this little rug. It had a car on it and didn't look as if it was going to take up the whole floor. I specifically didn't want something large. The little car shaped rug at it's longest bit is only slightly longer then my 9 months old.
Price & Availability:
The rug cost me £10. It was reduced at the time from £19. I haven't seen them for quite some time so there's a chance that they are no longer in production. Mothercare do however make the same size rugs in other cute designs such as bears and hearts. Maybe give the website a check as they might have some things that the stores don't.
Texture:
Odd thing to write about but it is important to me when buying a rug. When I was growing up my mother thought it a wonderful idea to buy this ugly sandpaper feeling carpet. She said it looked nice and if I hated the feel of it so much then to keep my house shoes on! This has obviously scarred me for life!
In store I ran my hand over the rug and was happy with it. It's not light and fluffy but at the same time it's not harsh and unwelcoming. My little man has rolled around on it many times and has even fallen asleep on it. 100% cotton so says the tag.
Colours:
Mostly a mix of blues with a bit of red and white. It was very important to my elder lad that there be no trace of pink anywhere in sight. Lord help me if he had a little sister. He used to love pink but since started school he's under the impression the pink is evil and shouldn't even be mentioned for fear of gender confusion! I hope he grows out of this at some point. I try not to say anything and ignore it so that he doesn't associate it his head as a big deal. Child psychology is not my strong point but I'm doing alright so far. My biggest discovery thus far still being that chocolate will make him do almost anything.
Clean me:
Now with a young man and a little man things get dirty. You can try and hide things away but no matter where it is I can guarantee it will still get mucky. There has been a good mix of food and drink spilt on this poor mistreated rug. It isn't the sort of thing to throw into the washing machine so I'm already put out! No no, honestly I'm not that bad ... grab a sponge and give the rug a little rub-a-dub with some water and it'll be good as new. The only time I have not been able to get something out was a bit of blackcurrant juice that I didn't know had been spilt until later that day. Summer heat had dried it into the carpet to a point where it was now a part of it. Thankfully it's only a couple of drops so no big deal really, but don't tell the kids as they got a telling off!
Recommend me to a friend:
I love this little rug. It was exactly what the boys' room needed. I reckon it would look good even in a room that already had carpet. There are matching items which would have been nice to know before I got all the bedding so we have a mix of stuff in the room but they never notice anyway!
