Disadvantages: Hair tuft are a mouth magnet

This rocking duck is a firm hit in my house. I knew it would be, hence pestered grandad to buy it for Christmas - it was a a choice between premium bonds or this - i know what I'd have preferred as a child! It was bought for £40 from Kiddicare - there are a lot in this range, but this seemed to be the cutest gender neutral one.

As soon as we got this out of the box, my daughter was intrigued - in fact she was intrigued even before it was unwrapped due to the sheer size of the box. It is such a lovely yellow colour - she crawled over to it squawking with excitement - and when we pressed the ear to make it quack, even better!

It's nicely padded so is a comfy ride for a little one. My daughter was 10 months old when we got it and on the smaller size of average - a smaller child might be a bit lost in it, and they do need to be able to sit up unaided to use it safely. The rocking motion is quite gentle and it's quite easy for them to propel themselves on it. We've not had any falling off incidents yet, and she's mastered holding on with one hand while grabbing for a toy with the other, but I'm not sure I'd leave the room with her on it!

Only negative is the tuft of white hair, just in grabbing range. My baby loves to pull this out and try and eat it - not ideal, so I'm toying with the idea of cutting it off.

This held novelty value for a few weeks - she'd crawl up to it and make happy noises - although she doesn't do this anymore, she still loves going on it and hearing the quacking and it's been a big hit with all visiting children.

Summary: Great safe fun for little ones
