Mothercare Bug Buddies Mobile
We have recently gone through our collection of baby things as a friend is due to have a baby soon and as baby equipment and toys are so expensive, it is nice to have some well cared for things passed on, and to be honest, it is lovely to see our little ones baby bits being put to good use again!
We originally got bought this mobile as a present for our little one when she was born. It originates from Mothercare, though unfortunately I do not know how much it was back then, and can not find it on the Mothercare website. I do believe that it was around the £20.00 mark though can not be sure. I have seen it on Ebay, though, for starting price of £0.99p which is a real bargain!
As the name suggests, the mobile has a 'bug' theme, though it is much nicer than it sounds! The main frame is green with four different bugs hanging from each part in mainly red, yellow and blue colours. The main music part can be switched on via the small circular part above the mobile with a small winding mechanism so that it will eventually turn itself off or run out so you do not need to go back and do it, and has a lovely little tune which starts off fast and then becomes slower in the hope that it will help the baby go to sleep. Although I can not be sure whether it was the mobile or just my little one, we did find that when she was a baby, our little one fell asleep almost immediately when putting this on! The only problems with the music is that the wind-up mechanism does not last very long and so if your baby doesn't fall asleep quickly, you risk disturbing them more by having to go back and wind it up again. Also, although our little one was used to noise at bedtime, I did feel the music was a little too loud and so might work the other way with some babies.
As an added bonus, when your little one is too old for the mobile, the little bugs detach and turn in to little finger puppets to give your child something else to keep them entertained!
All in all, despite the small negatives, I would certainly recommend this mobile as our little one loved it. It lasted well and is still going a few years later and perfect to give as a gift to someone expecting a new baby.
Our youngest daughter wasn’t as easy to settle as our two previous daughters because she will not take a dummy (a good and a bad thing), so we purchased a cot mobile for her. The mobile was Beatrix potter one that was very similar to the Mothercare bug buddies mobile in nearly every way. It was an overhead mobile with four rabbits dangling from a supported frame (What else do you expect being a Beatrix potter mobile). A wind up switch will start the mobile to work, the rabbits going around in a circle with the sound of a babies melody. The cost is £29.99 and can be found at Mothercare world No batteries required
I originally bought this mobile as it went with all my daughters nursery, which was the 'snug in a bug theme'. This mobile is excellent value priced at £ 20.00 (although I think it's gone down in price since) as it can be used as a toy also,as the characters come off and turn into finger puppets which you can hours of fun playing with. It's got a nice tune which gets slower and slower and sometimes, not always, lulls my little girl to sleep. The only down side is that the music is a little on the loud side. It's got a winding mechanism so does not require any batteries which is a definate bonus as you haven't got to worry about it going at that crucial moment. All in all a great mobile and a great choice.
