I bought one of these to give to my mum as a keepsake when my son was born. I had done similar things with my first 2 children but had bought expensive kits and when I saw this I thought it was worth a go.

The original cost is £16 but at the moment they have it reduced to £12.80 and it is from Mothercare.

It is a set of 2 wooden frames with the space for a photo on one side and the babies imprint on the other. The frames are 20 x 23 x 6. The frames are lovely, the wood is very smooth and polished with a great shine on it. The frames come with either a blue or a pink mount to go with the photo and the print.

The kit comes complete with some clay which can be moulded and used for your babies foot and handprint.

The directions state that you knead the clay until it is soft and then gently press the hand or foot into it to get the print. Then leave it to dry and place it into the frame.

In reality this isn't the case!

The clay is very messy, it is air drying and it gets hard very quickly. When you are kneading it it gets very messy and sticky and it isn't pliable at all. The imprint is very hard to get as the clay is too hard. Also, once you have the vague shape I found that when I left it to dry it went all mishapen. I ended up giving up. It is hard enough having your baby fight you when you try to do this and it makes it worse when the actual product defeats you as well!

This product was a great disapointment. I ended up buying one of the expensive kits that I had been trying to avoid. It is a lovely frame though, and I used the space in the frame for the print I made with the other kit.

A good idea but the clay lets it down.
