A disappointment for the £45 price tag

We purchased this with gift money for our baby, and we are now on our second one. This is not because we liked the first one, but because we couldn't believe that the motor was supposed to be as noisy as it turns out to be with under a fortnights worth of minimum use.

The mobile is very pretty to look at - it has four brightly coloured plush toys (two of which tinkle); a lion, a giraffe, a monkey and an elephant, as well as four plush 'things (leaves, flowers), which act as counter weights to the animals. The toys go round and round and up and down, propelled by a motor which is almost as loud as that of a full sized carousel. This is the case on both of the models that we have tried.

The music played by the mobile is 'Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star', Chopin's 'Nocturne No2 in E Flat Major', and another one, the name of which escapes me (and humming doesn't come across too well in text). The music is far too loud (we resorted to sticking sellotape over the speaker in an effort to reduce the volume, and the tune selected repeats continuously (it does not cycle through the tunes) until you turn it off (there is no timer). It would have been good to have been able to use just the light and mobile functions without the music blaring away, but there is no way to do this.

All in all, this mobile is very limited for the £45 price tag, and we will be returning it for a second time due to the faulty motor, this time for store credit rather than another one of these models!

Dont waste your money on this!

We bought this mobile for our daughter, in honesty because it had a giraffe on it (we adore giraffes!) but also loved the colourful toys on it! I must admit we've been rather unimpressed with it and do regret buying it now.

The mobile has 3 music settings - a nursery rhyme (twinkle twinkle little star), a lullaby and a piece of classical music. All 3 pieces are played at a deafening volume and I fail to see how this could soothe a baby to sleep! We have covered ours in cotton wool and tape but, even with that on, it's still louder than we would want! There is no timer function as far as we can work out meaning that the piece of music you've chosen will continue to play at said loud volume until you go in to switch it off - if your baby has somehow managed to fall asleep with all the noise then you going in will go someway towards waking her again!! The 3 tunes are also very annoying and you'll be fed up of them within a couple of weeks - unlike the fisherprice rainforest tunes which we're still happily listening to 3 months on!

The large round disc at the top contains little star and moon designs, as the music plays there is an option to have lighs flashing too in red and yellow. These are quite pleasant actually and it's a shame that you dont have an option for the toys going round and lights flashing on their own!

There are 4 soft toys with this mobile, a blue elephant, a yellow giraffe, a red monkey and an orange lion. All are detatachable and they frequently do detatch - I wouldn't recommend leaving the toys on this over night as we have often woken up (our baby co-shares in with us) to find at least two of the toys in her cot - I would imagine having a toy drop on your baby in the night would give her quite a fright! The elephant, in particular, is quite heavy and within a few hours of being reattatched to the mobile is already hanging by a thread!

      The mobile requires 3 x C batteries which are not included. It measures 55 x 55 x 66 cm.

The Mothercare website states the following
"Always position a cot mobile well out of baby's reach and remove from cot as soon as baby starts to sit up, kneel or pull him/herself upright. "

I really wouldn't recommend this mobile, it costs £34 from mothercare. We bought ours new from ebay and it is the only reason we haven't been able to return it! The only saving grace was that we only paid £17 for it!
