When the ex moved out I decided to get my daughter in a proper bedtime routine, it was difficult while the ex was there, as her son shared a room with Lily-May, and she would keep him awake at night. I began turning the bedroom into a proper girls room and being a fan of Peppa Pig(my daughter that is, not me), I began searching for Peppa Pig items to fill my daughters room up. The first thing I had to look for was the bed, I thought if I get something that really appeals to her, it would make settling her into a proper routine a lot easier. I saw a few toddler beds online and they were a little out of my price range, that's when I came across this bed. I was attracted to how the duvet set in the picture of the bed went really well with the bed and I set about looking for a duvet set and curtains to match before I came back and purchased the bed (If I couldn't find a Peppa Pig duvet set, I probably wouldn't have settled on this bed, as I couldn't imagine her having a Peppa Pig bed with a different duvet set on it, it just wouldn't look as good).
The bed is 146cm long and 75cm wide and the headboard is 66cm tall, there is also a gap of 10 cm between the floor and the bed base, so not too much room, but still enough to store a few items underneath (it seems taller than 10cm). The bed comes completely flat packed, and when I say completely, I mean completely, the only thing that comes fully assembled is the plastic headboard. The headboard is the highlight of the bed, and without it, it would just be a normal bed, Peppa pig is resplendent within a ring of flowers in the centre of the headboard. The headboard is made of really strong thick pink coloured plastic, similar to the kind of plastic most Little Tikes stuff is made out of. The other parts of the bed are metal and they are also pink, the legs have black plastic stoppers on the ends of them (that you have to stick on).
When I opened the box it reminded me of a Meccano set I used to have when I was little, I think I remember the Meccano set having slightly less pieces though. Despite the brief shock at the amount of bits, I found building the bed relatively easy at first, the instructions were really simple to follow, then....I found I had a couple of screws missing and had to phone Character World customer services, who were extremely helpful and within a few days they sent out the replacement screws, so heed this tip, check all the parts before you start building the bed or you will end up with a half built bed in your house for a few days. The thing I found monotonous about building this bed was having to bolt each individual slat pole(I think that's the technical term for them), and once built the slat poles do spin around and make a little noise, but they are fine when the mattress is on it.
My daughter goes in her room a lot, to play with her toys or watch DVD's, I did have an inflatable sofa in there for her, but it burst, and for the last few months she has been sitting on her bed to watch her television. Quite often as soon as she sees that it is dark outside, she asks to go to her bed and I have to explain to her that it is only 4pm and there's a long time to go before bedtime. I have even had a lie down on her bed and it is comfortable, a tad too small for me though, as Lily-May soon points out, "Get off my bed, you've got your own bed!", very protective of her bed she is. The bed gets jumped on, sat on and slept on, and it is still as sturdy as it was when I first built it, which is a good testament to the quality of this bed.
I purchased this bed from amazon.co.uk for £48.99 including delivery, which I think is a good price for something that is going to last my daughter for a couple of years. You have to buy the mattress separately and I purchased mine from amazon.co.uk for £37.85, reduced from £79.99, but it is a comfortable mattress so I didn't mind paying the price for my daughters comfort (If my daughter is comfortable in her bed, then she isn't coming into mine in the middle of the night, thus, a decent night sleep had by all).
My daughter loves her bed, it is a perfect size for her to get in and out of, and there is room for her to hide some of her bulkier toys underneath it. The bed looks good in Lily-May's Peppa Pig Pink Palace of Fun (yes I have given her bedroom a name), along with all her other Peppa Pig furniture, curtains, lamps etc. I love this bed so much that I am actually dreading the thought of buying her a bigger one, when she gets too big for it. The bed is not only good for sleeping on, as my daughter also sits and plays on it as she watches DVD's in the comfort of her bedroom. The negative I have about this bed was having to wait for a few days for a part, but that is my own fault for not checking all the parts were there before building it, like the instruction manual says. I know there are better looking more expensive toddler beds on the market, but this is a nice cheaper alternative that will last until she grows out of it. So overall for the price and what it is, I am going to give this 5/5.
