We moved to a new house this year which means that I have the advantage of starting afresh with a nursery rather than our next baby simply inheriting the nursery that our son had. He had a Winnie the Pooh theme so I wanted to do something different this time and opted for a jungle animal theme. We had already had a black out blind with animal pictures on so I started looking around for other decorations to go with this. I had used wall stickers in my son's room and was really pleased with the effect that they gave so I looked around for some for the nursery.
Eventually, I opted for these wall stickers from room mates which cost me £13.99 plus postage online. The stickers arrived promptly and I was able to apply to our lemon coloured walls - white or light coloured walls are said to give the best effect with these stickers. They came on four sheets and there are 29 different stickers. There are a variety of animals contained - all of which are brightly coloured and have a child-like design so are perfect for a nursery or playroom. There are giraffes, monkeys, tiger, elephants, zebras etc as well as trees and suns - so you can create your own scenes. There is no guidance provided on how to place them in the room - it is entirely at your own design so you can simply dot sporadically around the room, create a border or create a scene. I opted for two large scenes on opposite walls, which I find quite effective and hope they will be visually stimulating to baby.
The stickers are easy to apply. You simply remove them from the backing sheet, place directly onto the wall (if freshly painted this needs to have been left for at least 3 weeks prior to application) and press down, removing any air bubbles. I did find the first few that I applied did have quite a few air bubbles until I got into my stride and worked out a technique to apply these most effectively. However, they can be removed, repositioned and applied again quite easily without any loss of stickiness etc. I am not usually the most artistic of people but I found these easy to apply effectively to create a lovely effect in the room. They have really brightened the room up and provided it with character in a fairly cheap way - certainly much cheaper than buying pictures etc. I also like that you can space the stickers out as much or as little as you like so they can take up an entire wall or just a fraction of it.
Overall, I am really pleased with these. They are easy to apply and look really effective too. Highly recommended.
Last summer one of the things we decide to do for our eldest son was to re decorate his room. This was partly as it needed doing but also to do something special for him a few months after his new brother was here. My son has always been animal mad so when we were talking about how he wanted his room he picked the colour green and things with animals one them. After various internet searches we decided on several wall sticker sets including this jungle set by Roommates.
The stickers arrived in a clear plastic box this was actually quite small and the various stickers were folded up inside actually needed to be taken out and smoothed down due to creases in the sticker sheets. I actually think this is a fault in the design of the boxes as other stickers we have bought from the same brand had the same problem. We found that it is best to take them out the day before you intend to put them up and lay them out flat after smoothing the creases out then they do un-crease. But it is a bit of a faff to do so when a flatter box would stop this problem from happening.
The stickers are spread over several sheets with a good amount of spacing between them so when you peel them back they don't tear or lift of another sticker before you are ready for it.
The instructions advise not to apply to freshly painted wall but to wait a few days. The surface that we applied them to was very finely raised wallpaper with a satin emulsion on. I was a little concerned that the slight texture to the wallpaper may make the stickers not stay in place as well. However overall they have remained in place well and adhered well to this surface. The only slight curly that we have had to any stickers has been to the feet of the hippo and the elephant and baby which is the largest sticker in the collection. The stickers are marketed as repositionable stickers and on this point I would actually have to disagree they go on very well, but taking them off and lining them up or moving them around significantly reduces their stickiness. I don't think it is a coincidence that the two stickers that we have slight problems with are the ones we moved around. I would definitely advise having a plan in mind of where you want all the stickers to be to reduce the amount of moving you have to do. I would say that when we did lift the stickers off to move those stickers around they didn't damage the paint or wallpaper underneath which I think is great for the future when he grows out of this look for his room.
The stickers are all printed on to clear backing so when you lift them up and place them on the walls they look as if they are printed on your walls or drawn which gives a great effect. We had a set that was slightly cheaper of a monkey and branch and this is printed on a white background so makes it look more like stickers than drawings and of the two effects that you can get I certainly prefer the Roommates version.
The amount of stickers you get for your money is not a lot really and we had arranged the stickers as a jungle walkway around our son's single bed. There are enough stickers in one pack to go all around the walls by bed and to have some of the birds flying but that is it. If you have grand schemes for collages across the walls you will need several packs.
The stickers wipe down well with a cloth if they get any marks on but I would advise just using a baby wipe rather than a damp cloth to clean them as it can make them lift slightly other wise
All the animals in the jungle set are very brightly coloured and cheerful giving them a very friendly look. The look of them is certainly appealing to younger children like my 5 year old how much older children such as 9 and 10 would find them I am not sure but the bold colourful design is wonderfully appealing to my son and his friends when he has shown off his new room. The stickers allow you to create a few scenes on the walls with your imagination but as there are only a few trees the scenes that can be created are a bit limited but with several different sets including Roommates monkey business ones we have been able to create a great jungle atmosphere for my son in his room which was what he wanted. The look of surprise and amazement when he came home to see what we had done is one I will always treasure and makes these stickers worth it in my book.
The jungle set costs around £14 from Amazon and whilst I think this is a bit expensive for the amount of stickers you get I do think the looks you can create almost justify the price. I am going to give them 4 stars as I think they are great quality look wise but I don't think they are as repositionable as they claim but they look great, stick reasonably well as they are still on the walls without any falling off after nearly 8 months now. Most importantly for me my son loves them and having a jungle room created with these stickers is great as my artistic skills could never have done this as well as the stickers have made it.
