Saplings cot top changer
When my daughter first arrived we ended up buying a cot for downstairs in the living room, we just wanted something that was going to allow her to be out of the way of the dogs and something far more substantial that a Moses basket so they couldn't knock her over. However, I never gave much thought about where I would change her, I just assumed I would do the majority of bum changes on the sofa or on the floor, well the floor turned out to be quite uncomfortable and after witnessing several spouting pee fountains I didn't want to risk the sofa forever smelling of wee. So I decided that a possibly more comfortable option might be to invest in a cot top changer, which led me to Saplings cot top changer. The Saplings cot top changer is essentially a plank of wood that is placed on top of a cot to provide a changing area at a more comfortable height.
We ordered the Saplings cot top changer in a natural wood finish (which matches out cot brilliantly) from Amazon for just over £30. I do think that the cot top changer would fit quite a few variety of cots or cot beds but I doubt it would be suitable for some of the sleigh cots that have quite thick wooden sides. It is worth measuring your cots dimensions and checking with the sizes suggested by Saplings which I believe is 25 mm depth for the cot side bars. The Saplings cot top changer will comfortably hold a typical changing mat (I'm currently using a standard one from Mamas and Papas) and still give you enough room at the side to squeeze in some wipes, cream and any other bits. However, it really is a no frills cot top changer and does not come with a towel rail or pull out shelf like I have seen some of the more expensive ones do - but it really depends if you would use any of those extras as I certainly haven't missed them.
It is worth bearing in mind that the Saplings cot top changer is not perfect for everyone. My husband towers over me at 6 foot tall and he doesn't find the changing height as comfortable as me, in fact it's almost a perfect height when placed upon a fairly standard cot for my 5 foot 4 inches frame. It's just something worth thinking about if you are taller, there might be better options rather than the Saplings cot top changer available for you out there.
The Saplings cot top changer does come with some assembly necessary, but it only took my husband about 10 or 15 minutes to follow the instructions and put it all together. As far as I am aware the instructions were straight forward and he only had a small grumble with the wood glue provided that came in an unhelpful sachet. The Saplings cot top changer does also come with a safety clip that does attach to the cot to ensure that it can't really go anywhere when in use. Overall the top cot changer is very easy to build and very easy to place or remove from the cot. Personally, I do tend to leave mine in place the majority of time but when I want to put it away it does fit under the cot.
I really love the Saplings cot top changer it has made changing and playing with my daughter infinitely more comfortable and while you really need to pay more attention to them than you would if the baby was on the floor I still wouldn't change back. From me the Saplings cot top changer completely deserves the full five out of five star rating and I am sure I will be using it for many more months to come, really I plan on using it until I feel that my baby outgrows it or gets too heavy for it.
