Advantages: Cheap, durable, unisex

Disadvantages: not all babies are interested in mobiles

This mobile is one of the wide range of Anne Geddes merchandising now available which has spawned from her photography work featuring 'cute' babies in flowerpots, bumblebee outfits etc. Not overly tacky, and when you're pregnant and feeling soppy can appear attractive! The mobile has four babies dressed in furry bunny outfits, which rotate in time to the not overly annoying melody. Good choice for before baby is born as very unisex. Doesn't have any remote control or flashy lights, but this has the advantage of no batteries, which I'm sure most parents will appreciate.

One thing that seems to attract all babies is themselves. I have yet to meet a baby who can resist reacting to a mirror, and their own face usually proves much more fascinating than all the sparkling lights and shiny things in the world. This is what I think makes this mobile one of the better choices for a tiny or yet to be born babies, as it features baby faces, so you don't have to worry about whether the bump will be interested in looking at Winnie the Poo or whether they would prefer an animal mobile! It is also designed in such a way that baby can actually see the bunnies, something a lot of mobile designers tend to forget, putting all the detail on the top of the mobile!

At the moment it is on special offer in Argos for £12.49, half price, and I really wouldn't advise spending any more on a mobile than this, as so many babies are simply not interested, until they are big enough to stand up, and can attempt to destroy the mobile!

Finally, my elder son was never really overly interested in any of the mobiles we got him, so I covered a cardboard box in holographic paper, hung it from the ceiling, and attached different images with thread and blutack depending what he was into. For example aeroplane pictures from clip art, followed by teletubbies, then Thomas the tank engine characters cut out from a sample of wallpaper.
