Advantages: easy to carry ,can fit in small rooms
Disadvantages: woke my son up when he moved.
The ready bed has only been around a few years. IT is basically a sleeping bag that is attached to an air bed and is available in a wide variety of designs.
My Son is a great fan of Thomas although he will no longer watch the TV program he still loves the toys and games connected with him. I managed to pick him up a Thomas the tank engine ready bed from a car boot for £3.50. It is currently available from Argos for £32.29 so I felt I got a real bargain.
I washed the covers at 40◦C and aired it on the line. It came out bright and new. I rolled it back into the storage bag and put it away until our holiday as I thought it would be ideal for sleeping in the caravan. It is very light and rolls up like a small sleeping bag.
When we arrived we picked his room which was the only room that had the floor space for it to go down. Blowing the bed up was one of the first things he could do so that he could get used to wear he was sleeping. Unfortunately when I got the pump out there was a split down the centre, it was along the line the seal but as it happened prior to me owning it I don't know how easily this happened. It then was I knew I had to blow it up with my own breath.
I was surprised how easily it inflated. It does have a flap valve which meant the air I had blown in stayed there and it was much easier than a lot of the valves you need to squeeze the top together.
It took less than five minutes to inflate and that was despite having to stop as my son decided he wanted to jump on it half inflated. He initially seemed quite impressed so we put it in his room with his sleeping companions: Lala, Fifi, Noddy and Iggle Piggle although there was not room for them and him in the bed. The blanket is thick enough for young children. I would think it would be ideal for average temperatures but it is difficult to see how it would work in a really hot room but extra blanket could be added on top if it is too cold. The zip had a large clasp so my son could get out without help.
The first night he did not like the idea of going to sleep in it and this emotion continued through the holiday. He seemed to wake up every time he moved then would cry for Mommy. He kept waking up so often he ended up in my bed every night at the latest by 11.30pm.
My son is the sort of child who has always loved his home comforts and never much liked his travel cot he wasn't comfy enough so I think it will be a couple of years before he takes to such adventures.
It is recommended for children two years and above and it is a great buy for most children but I recommend that you test your child out in it before going away if sleeping elsewhere is going to be a problem
Summary: Great concept but not for my son
