Apple Keynote 1.0
by milly234
Keynote is the apple equivalent of power point which comes with Microsoft office but it forms part of iWork, the office package for Mac whish I think you can buy for about £80.
I have experience with using both powerpoint and Keynote and think that keynote is the way forward. Keynote makes making presentations easy and they ... do look a little different, which is good if you are, like me in a class where the class and marker has to sit through and watch 10 presentations, 9 in powerpoint and 1 in keynote, I know which one will stand out for good reasons.
To give presentations, my mac came with 2 things to plug it into a projector box, which are easy to use and pretty smart looking in the typical apple white.
Keynote has loads of options and one of my favourite is the slide templates which shows you multiple designs of slides and you can just choose which ever you need to use, like bullets and picture, title etc. The themes are carried out between the slides realy well, better than just giving them all a background on powerpoint, and this really helps the slides gel together. There is a wide range of preset themes so there should be something for everyone.
As with other Mac software such as pages, keynote makes lining things up wtih each other really easy and this can give your presentations a good polished look. I think this is much harder on powerpoint.
Keynote also has a lot of presenter options, for example you can see the slides which are next, you can add notes, you can record your slide show and you can time yourself too - all very useful if you don't want to mess up on the big day.
Keynote is frequently cited as the best app for presentations and I can really see why. It is user friendly, easy to learn, and easy to use to create professional looking, brilliant presentations.
Of the iWork suite I think it is the best and it makes the package worth buying! Read the complete review |

Apple iWork '08

iWork '08 version
I have had this software for about two years maybe more and I know there is a new version of this software but this is still really good. I have used windows microsoft office for ages and the I got a iMac and I had no idea what office suite to get. I bought this in 2008 and I have been using it ever ... since.
The software package contains pages, ketnote and numbers. They all have similar functions to that of the microsoft office packages. Because I am used to the microsoft software I found this one a bit difficult to use and get used to at first, but it is a good piece of software.
*Keynote*
Keynote is apples version of microsoft powerpoint. You can make presentations with apples pre-designed themes (backgrounds) which there are 35 to chose from. Some of the features are different to office, including powerful graphic tools and built in voice narration recording. can also add text, graphics, images, charts, sound and transitions to your presentations/slides like on office.
For me keynote is really useful, it makes, making presentations more entertaining and in my opinion it is quite easy to use, although you have to get used to it first. It is also set out really clearly and it has the same apple signature style of functionality, simplicity and elegance. You can also add movies to your slides, make images movie on your slide and you can export your slideshow into another format such as quicktime, so that you can add it to your iPod to watch it wherever and whenever you want!
*Pages*
This is apples version of microsoft word. You can do the same things with pages as you can with word, you add text, change text, add images, add tables and add charts/graphs. It is also a bit like microsoft publisher in that it also has templates which you can use for things such as letters, newsletters, business cards, flyers, cards and invitations - there are 140 templates to chose from.
Which are really good for making your personal gifts/items. For example, I made a birthday card for my sister on pages. I added images of my sister and text as well and it cam out really well.
Although it is quite difficult to get used to after using office for so long, but it is quite simple to use and it also has a clean simple layout. It has the text size, font, colour, bold and alignment at the top of the window, just like microsoft office word. It is a really good programme in my opinion.
*Numbers*
This is apples version of excel. You can do the same things as you can on office excel such as creating spreadsheets, tables of data, charts and graphs. You can also make 2d and 3d graphs like you can on excel. It says on the box for numbers that it has 'more than 150 functions', I just haven't found them all yet.
And numbers has video tutorials that you can watch and learn from. When you open numbers up you come on to this screen with various templates on the same as pages and keynote. Some of the templates include, event planners, dinner party organizer, an invoice and budget planner. I especially like the travel planner.
Again like with the other software, pages and keynote, it takes time to get used to unless you have only ever had a apple iMac or apple software. It has the same clear, simple apple design as all apple software. One thing I love so much about numbers is the travel planner, which has various sections for you to fill out for your holidays so you don't forget anything, including a packing list, reservations, emergency contacts and activities.
Conclusions
*A joy to use
*More entertaining to use than office software
*Simple, clear and elegance design which is true of all apple products I have used
*Good high quality brand
*Great product - the pack contains the apple software cd, am iWork getting started guide and a installation sheet.
*So easy to set up
*New version available
*I payed about £50 I think for this product which is really good in my opinion as you can spend up to £300 for the microsoft office software
*Nice colourful apple packaging
*Easy to install
*Does take a bit of time to get used to - but the getting started booklet helps so does the apple website and the video tutorials. And apple support.

MS Office Excel 2007
by klwtgw
My new PC came with Office 2007 as standard and ever since I have started using it, it has sped up everything I used to do in previous versions.
Excel - this program is used for creating spreadsheets, timetables, doing sums and ordering data. It has many new features compared to its previous versions and I will just run ... through some of the ones I have found most useful in this review.
*Firstly, Microsoft has introduced a new ribbon along the top of all of its Office applications giving you access to many features which would usually be hidden away in menus. Its very aesthetically pleasing and makes working at the PC a whole lot more enjoyable.
*One of my favourite features with Excel is your ability to create customized rules in order to format cells. For example, if you have a spreadsheet full of numbers showing profits and losses. You can select the whole document and create a rule saying for example; "all of the negative numbers (losses) will be highlighted red" and "all of the profits in green". With a click of a button this is now done. You can also have every number between the highest and lowest corresponding to a colour scale from red through orange to green.
*Another new feature is the brand new charts you can create. The pie charts, histograms and many more are far better looking than previous versions making you work look appealing and modern. Also within the ribbon you can simply select a theme/style for the whole of your document to look like; titles will become bold with borders and colours will be added to your with hassle free.
*With the new sorting features there are so many possibilities to order your work by date, time, size or all 3 of them. What makes things even better is that it is so simple to do.
*Unlike before, where I have found that I could never get my Excel Document to print onto just one piece of paper, now its ever so easy to set up printing margins. You can ensure that when you do print out your 4 page document you don't end up with it sprawled across 6 pages.
*I myself have used it a lot for maths calculations and it has worked a charm. Its so easy to create one cell with a formula in and then using the ability to drag it downwards, do hundreds or even thousands of calculations in one go. It even has an extended formula bar so you can now see everything you are typing in whereas before you would lose half of it.
Finally I would just like to say anyone who is interested in getting any new Office software you may want to wait until the summer of 2010 when hopefully Office 2010 will be available. Also, make sure that where you work or on your other computers you have compatible versions as some features in 2007 will not work with previous versions.
