Microsoft powerpoint is software designed for users to create their own colourful and exciting presentations for use in the classroom, boardroom or personal use.
In my lectures, powerpoint has now become the favorite method of teaching, ie getting information across easily and in an understandable way. Powerpoint can literally be used for almost any teaching situation and is perfect for presentations.
As mentioned before, powerpoint is an application designed for creating moving presentations. When I have used it, I find once again that microsoft has made the user interface a little more difficult since the earlier versions. Also, the rate of success with powerpoint depends very much with the user. By this I mean that whilst some presentations made with powerpoint may be close to amazing and exciting, others may be either dull and boring. So a poor presentation does not necessarily mean poor software. With powerpoint, it may take 2 or 3 attempts to get a good final presentation
You do get some pretty neat features with powerpoint. Objects, words can fly, spin, roll in from almost any direction, appear then disappear. However overuse can make a presentation look poor and hard to read, it's all up to personal choice, just be careful when using it and do not go mad with the available features.
Powerpoint is available for around £100+ which makes it a very expensive investment, especially for a student or home user. It would be best to buy it as part of a package ie word, excel and powerpoint for around the same price.
