Advantages: great software-more options than microsoftr, its not made by microsoft, ITS FREE

Disadvantages: the version for windows is made with java, making it slow, but linux is wonderful

The version of open office you can run in windows is a great piece of software EXCEPT it is made by sun to promote java(which I believe was their mistake). My version of open office kept crashing and shutting itself down after I had it for a month or so (probably my own fault :S), it was a bit annoying because I lost alot of work through that.

Anyway the problem with java-is it makes it very slow because of the way it compiles at run time. But for a free piece of software its great. I belive the one for linux is supported by debian and not made with java which makes me smile :).

I use it on Windows and it's fine. Not up to MS Office yet but useable.
