I first downloaded a trial of TuneUp because my computer was going really slow, I was close to getting a new one when searching the internet came up with this option. I didn't believe that it would make much difference but thought it was worth a try anyway.
I don't know what to say really apart from, it worked! It pointed out hundreds of things that was running on my computer which I rarely used and gave me the option of deleting them, along with configuring my graphics and other options to speed up my computer even more.
--- What it Does ---
Short answer, many, many things.
1) The software analysis what things you have installed which you use and don't use on your computer over a particular time, then suggests which ones you can uninstall.
2) It lists all the services/software which runs at startup (as soon as you turn the computer on) and gives you a rating of how important they are, giving you the option to remove the ones you don't require.
3) Allows you to disable running programs while you're not using them, making your computer run faster.
4) Select a particular state for your system, 'Turbo' or 'Economy', which either speeds up your computer by disabling visual effects etc or slows down your computer to reduce power consumption, which you can turn on and off whenever you wish.
On top of these, it also contains the options to clean the registry, defragment registry, defragment, manage startup and shutdown and fix common problems.
--- Pros ---
Extremely easy to use.
Does what it says.
Cheap considering how much it does.
Gives you the option to uninstall within the software, rather than going through control panel.
Gives links to the internet to search for software you're not sure of.
--- Cons ---
...Can't really think of any. Would be good if they considered combining it with a virus protection though.
--- Overall ---
I really do enjoy having this software on my computer, getting rid of all the unnecessary software without me spending hours trying to work out what I need and don't need. I would definitely recommend, even if you your computer is running fast it's still worth getting it cleared out now and then and this is the perfect tool for the job.

The bottom line is that you don't actually *need* this piece of software on your computer, but unless you are a computer whizz who knows Windows like the back of their hand (it's suitable for Windows7 Vista and XP) you are probably going to want this 3 user license product to keep your computers running as well as they can.
Tuneup Utilities is both easy to install and understand due to a clear and intuitive interface. It brings most of the things that in theory you *can* do through Windows into one place enabling you to free up disk space, disable unnecessary programs that don't need to run at start up and fix common problems at the click of a button. All of this is done without you having to navigate your way through a maze of menus. Though you may not notice as much improvement after running this on a newer machine, if you have an older computer following the recommendations will make a difference and make your machine run faster and more effectively. A new addition to the 2012 version of this established software is a special "economy mode" which is supposed to make sure your laptop battery lasts longer and your PC consumes less - I haven't actually used this so don't know how effective it it but in all the time we have had this installed on our 2 computers and laptop we have had no issues with it at all. I run it every now and then to keep my laptop at optimal operation, I like the fact that it puts programs that are running in the background into sleep mode until I need them and makes me almost feel like I know what I'm doing - it's fully configurable and easy to understand.
All in all this is a solid, well written and useful piece of software that has run seamlessly and unobtrusively in the background since install on our three machines of varying vintage, I've been using it now for a few months having been lucky enough to receive a copy from Amazon to try and keep. It enables me, a technical dunce, to see with ease what is actually going on with my computer. For both experienced users or those with less technical knowledge it's the interface that should come with Windows but doesn't. Recommended.
