Debenhams
by J McCann Ordered a rug on 8th Mar. Status kept showing as "order created". Phoned customer services beginning of April and told supplier had cancelled the order. Offered a refund which I still haven't received. Called again to find out why supplier cancelled and Debenhams told me they had made an error and they did not deliver ... to my postcode. I asked why my postcode was included on the list and they said it was an oversight. Called again a few days later as it still stated they could deliver to my postcode on their website - was informed that the supplier can deliver after all, but if I want my rug, I would need to reorder because my refund had been processed! I obviously declined. Same order included a sofa bed. Told would be delivered 23rd - no sofa. Rang at 5pm and told that the supplier couldn't deliver and the sofa had been passed to a new supplier who I had to ring for a date for delivery. New supplier said it will definitely be delivered on 24th April - 4pm still no sofa. Rang new supplier and they said they had no room on the van and I would get it the next day. I then got another call to say actually, they will deliver today, definitely by 6pm. It did not arrive. STILL NO SOFA!!!!!! Absolutely appalling customer services and no negative reviews can be posted on their site. They deem anything negative " a customer service issue" which somewhat negates the point of having product reviews. Read the complete review |

JTF Wholesale
by Boz750 I joined JTF Leeds many years ago when you had to be a trades/business person before you could get in. The variety of goods was awesome. A REAL treasure trove. Tools galore, furniture, bric-a-brac, building materials, Electrical, the list went on & on. The old building was a comfort to visit, including the excellent cafe. It was warm ... & pleasant. I ALWAYS came out spending a LOT more than I intended to. But you still felt like you had a bargain as it was pretty much trade price. You also got extra discount for buying box fulls or in bulk. I used to visit every 7 to 10 days. Sadly all that has changed. I visit once every few months. No more is it for the trades person (anyone can get in), and the prices have steadily increased and the stock range has diminished dramatically. The new Leeds building, that JTF is situated in is an old abattoir. Cold, dark, dank & dismal. Many a time I've seen the staff shaking from the cold. So many other shoppers have complained to me (as we chat) that they'll never go there again. When you look at the shelf prices, they look VERY appealing. Why? - because you always forget that you have to add on another 20% to the total. The V.A.T. usually makes any item more expensive than the high street supermarkets. So many things at JTF are available in the supermarket that 'stretches your pound' - but they are cheaper at that supermarket. I'll give you an example. The underbed & storage boxes. The supermarket sells 3 to 4 boxes for the same price as 2 boxes at JTF. The £2 JTF boxes can be bought at a pound shop at (you guessed it) £1 each. I could go on and on giving examples. There is a recent reviewer that wrote that 'For everything you need' at JTF and it's cheap. I can only assume that she was talking about JTF in another country, because I can't see it here. The tools that are available at JTF are just cheap, Chinese sourced, tat. So is most of the hardware, like knobs etc. (VERY poor quality). The best grade tools are usually Hilka products, which, at best, are below average. One or two better brands are starting to creep in on the shelves, but they show a small appearance. The food is ALWAYS cheaper at supermarkets. Most household products are too. The mattresses are poor quality (lasting no more than 3 years). But I will agree with her that the paper bags are cheap. Reading her review it just sounded like an advertisement by an employee. But - one thing that JTF is good at - End of line reductions. They happen rarely, but when they do, you KNOW you've got yourself a real deal. End of season bargains can be good too. The price of sealants is good too (It's the only reason I shop there). I'm a time served engineer (35 years), business owner (30 years) & a home owner/buyer of all household items. Bring back the old JTF. My friends used to ask me to take them there for their shopping. It's been 3 years since anyone has asked me. I shop alone :( I hope that this has been of some help and if a JTF upper management reads this review, maybe they might do something about it. I know that you are losing customers - so do the staff - so do you. Read the complete review |

The Body Shop
by HelenW The Body Shop is a brand I'm sure everyone must be aware of on the high street. As far as I am aware, they were one of the first brands to really hammer home, the message of ethical products. The Body Shop is a massive company with 2,400 stores across 61 different countries. It was founded in 1976 by Anita Roddick, to be a cosmetic store ... selling cosmetics made from natural products; but is now part of the L'Oreal company. ***The products*** The Body Shop sell a wide range of products in varying categories: 1. Bath and Body Care. This category incorporates a wide range of products such as body cleansers, body moisturisers, body scrubs, hair care, perfumes, hand/foot creams. The products they sell seem to go for the good quality, high street range, smack bang between budget and higher end. All of the products that I have used have been great quality and have done wonders for my skin, whether it's the bubble bath that doesn't dry my skin out (like most do!) or body butters that make my skin lovely and soft! I would highly recommend the body butters from this range, particularly the strawberry one and the grapefruit one! Also, if you suffer from dry skin on your hands, the hemp hand cream is a very worthy investment! It can be a bit greasy for day use, but works wonders overnight! 2. Skincare. They sell a fab range of skin products, i.e. all the cleanser, toner, moisturiser, facial washes, exfoliators and lip care that we now all rely on, on a daily basis! If there's one thing I'm going to shout about in this review, it's their skincare. My skin is horrendously dry (it has previously been referred to as scales(!!) by my sister!), but I've found an amazing product for dry skin. I can't use many cleansers, face washes etc because they are all very drying. UNTIL... vitamin E cream cleanser. It comes in a pink bottle and is an absolute godsend! 3. Haircare. They do a range of hair care products, all the usual shampoo, conditioner, deep moisturising conditioners etc. I've tried the deep moisturising conditioner and I wasn't overly thrilled, however, for some people they work well, I purchased it on a recommendation. 4. Make up. I love their make up. I am a avid devotee of their foundation! I've tried several other brands over the years, and I much prefer theirs. I've always been suited to the palest of every brand I've tried, but theirs seem to come up lighter than others, as I'm shade 2 rather than the lightest kind as previously! Although the body shop tends to be slightly pricey, their make up is really on a par with other brands which makes it great value. Whilst I tend to wear foundation, powder occasionally and mascara, if you do the whole shebang - blusher, bronzer etc, they have it all! They also do the appropriate brushes for application. Also, they offer a free make over in store, so if you fancy a little something different, you could always pop by for some inspiration. ***The ethics*** As I mentioned above, The Body Shop shout about their ethical stance. This is one of the things I really like about them. Against animal testing. They have always been strongly anti animal testing. They have advocated for the ban of products which have been tested on animals, quite possibly contributing towards the recent EU ban on the import and sale of products which have been tested on animals. Support community fair trade. The body shop has a fair trade mantra to assist countries in the third world to become self sufficient i.e. 'trade not aid'. The idea behind it is that the workers such as the small scale farmers and the traditional artisans who produce the raw ingredients i.e. the aloe, the hemp, the alcohol, the tea tree etc are paid a fair price. Activate self esteem. The Body Shop believes that inner beauty stems from having confidence, vitality and inner wellbeing. They don't use imagery that preys on women's beliefs about themselves and their insecurities. I think this is a brilliant thing. In an image conscious society, it's refreshing for there to be a brand that doesn't have beautiful, airbrushed, skinny models. Whilst I appreciate that other brands are trying to break this concept, i.e. dove and its "real women" campaign, the Body Shop uses very, very few 'people images' and tends to lean more towards artistic shots of the fruits etc. Defend human rights. Now this is a subject which is close to my heart. Over the last 10 years, the Body Shop has raised money for domestic violence charities who assist with and fund the protection, support and prevention of violence against women and children. The Body Shop actually ran a Stop Sex Trafficking of Children and Young People campaign in 2009 and by 2011, presented 7 million campaign petitions to the United Nations Human Rights Council. Now that, is taking the bull by the horns, in my opinion. Protecting the planet. There is a lot of focus throughout companies of all sizes, on reducing CO2 emissions, reducing your carbon footprint etc and The Body Shop is one of them; such as reducing their CO2 emissions by 50%, reducing their waste by 50% and domestic water consumption by 25%. ***The Helpful Staff*** Another brilliant element of The Body Shop is its staff and their approach to you. Firstly, they don't pounce on you the second you walk through the door. They let you browse, ask if there's anything they can help you with and just let you crack on with having a look. Whenever I ask questions, the staff have always been very knowledgeable, with regard to the products, what things will work best for what kind of skin as well as the ranges i.e. what's being discontinued, what's coming in new etc. I mentioned my dry skin to one ever so helpful staff member at the branch at the Merry Hill Centre and got told all sorts of useful info about what chemicals to avoid in products. ***The Stores*** I've found that all the Body Shop stores tend to be very light and airy, which I think is good. The products are always displayed very nicely, on either glass shelves, in wicker baskets, or in a wheelbarrow (??) tipped up by the door, with the offers on show! I think they're always very nicely done, and it makes you want to go in and have a browse! ***Prices*** I think that the Body Shop has a reputation of being quite pricey. I'd always thought of it as being quite expensive, however now that I have started shopping there more often, I've found them to be excellent value. A tub of body butter often lasts me a good month at least, as it's so moisturising, you don't need to apply every day! Therefore, the £13 which a body butter is, is an excellent price. Especially as similar brands in other stores e.g. Boots are just as expensive, if not more! Their foundation lasts me a good 3 months, even when I use it every week day, which represents excellent value for a £12 packet! Whilst I don't buy all of my cosmetics from there, I appreciate the quality of the ones that I do, if I felt it wasn't good value, I simply wouldn't bother. They also do a loyalty card, which I didn't bother with for a long time, as you have to pay £5 for one normally. However I was given mine for free which is great. I wandered in on my lunch break one day to purchase my foundation and powder and was told that because I had spent a certain amount on make up (I think it was £20), I could choose a free body butter and also have a free loyalty card! I found that to be brilliant value. Also, they do have some good offers. Body butters will often be reduced to £5 to clear, as will the gift sets which make excellent pressies for people! It can be a bit pricey for some things, but keep an eye out for the offers! Overall, I really like this shop. The company makes a stand and takes on major issues which have clearly already gone some way to making an impact on the world. I think that's very refreshing. Also, the staff are so helpful that whatever extensive training they undergo, it's a worthwhile investment when you have an assistant paying you such help. I highly recommend the body shop!
