Age ConcernNewest Review: ... where someone needs help to speak up. One of the most important roles that Age Concern play, in my opinion, is helping older people to claim entitlements due to them. Pension Credit (a top up to the State Pension for those on a low income) and Attendance Allowance (paid to over 65s who need help with daily tasks like bathing, due to illness or disability) are extremely under-claimed. I might not be in exactly the right place here, but I can't find a suitable section so I hope I'll be forgiven. I'd like to talk about Age Concern the charity, rather than the charity shops. The shops are great of course, but there is so much more to Age Concern than that, and many people have no idea what goes on behind the scenes. Firstly, Age Concern is a federation of organisations (about 400!), rather than one big organisation, which means that your local Age Concern is autonomous and different from all the other Age Concerns, even though they use the same logo. Charity shops seem to have slowly but surely changed their image and no longer is it just for the old or unemployed. A few years ago it seemed unthinkable to buy anything but the occasional book but now that 'word's got round' about how great bargains can sometimes be found they are growing in poularity. One of the better charity shops, in my opinion, is Age Concern. I like to support charities as much as possible but find that I can't always give cash on a regular basis but I do donate unwanted (but good quality goods) to several shops including Age Concern. We have just gained a charity shop in my small town - Age Concern - the first one. I couldn't resist a peak - was I surprised? - most definately I have experienced charity shops in the past - mostly looking for cheap books for my kids - both bookworms - but have never really found anything that interesting on the clothes front. I have now lost count of the things I have bought from this shop - for some reason, it seems to have an endless supply of as good as new, good quality clothes! I was going to a wedding - needed a navy suit/jacket to go with a navy skirt - decided to have a look on the off chance - came away with a Laura ...
