Advantages: superior quality, less hectic, inexpensive
Disadvantages: can't purchase more popular brands or rarer items, you have to pay for carrier bags.
For ages i have been stuck in a tesco rut, recently i went to Aldi as i had never been in there before...and i would never dream of going to Tescos for a full weeks shopping again. Yes, there isn't tons of well known brands but i find it much better quality and alot less expensive, with the recent rising food prices this shop gets you alot more for your money. Plus, did you know that many of the brands in tecos etc are made by the same people? I read somewhere that most biscuits, even value, are all made by well know 'quality' brands such as Foxes. When you go shopping in the big supermarkets you are paying for the label.
So, back to Aldi, the produce is of extremely good quality and I find it a much more relaxing place to shop, far less hectic. You cannot get everything that you can purchase from the larger stores but can get a good percentage of your shop, its worth it and you will slowly start converting to Aldi foods as you get used to them. By the way, the food isn't all German as many people think, you can get many items and they usually have offers each week on different styles of food, such as Chinese, American, Indian, Italian etc. This year they are also doing the 'Aldi super six', this is when you get a substantial amount of money off fruit and veg a week. We have has cherries and stawberriesfor 99p, oranges and apples for 49p, cucumbers, potatoes, cabbages...all of which i find better than the more expensive versions in other stores. Check out the website for latest offers.Themeat is very good and i can recommend pretty much all of it, especially their lean steak mince and chicken breasts, their equivalents would cost alot more.
Eachweek they have different displays at very low prices such as gardening equipment, TV's, computers, phones, mp3 players. I have bought many things and find them excellent for the price. This makes the weekly shop more enjoyable as these displays change twice a week.
The only downsides is that there are a few items you can'tget, such as the more rare kinds of rice and pasta. But the price easily makes up for it. Another bad point is the fact that the things on offer are not kept in stock, they put it all out on display and when its gone, its gone. Oh, and one more thing, there are no baskets, just trolleys and you have to pay for carrier bags (only about 3p) however, this does keep costs down for them (and therefore you) and helps with recycling...bring your own boxes/bags if you plan to get alot!
I have saved an amazingly large amount of money on my shopping bill, if you are struggling to keep up with supermarkets ever rising prices, or even if you just fancy a change i recommend shopping here.
Summary: Go check it out for yourself...guarantee you won't regret it.
