Advantages: Cheap fruit and veg, good range of cleaning products, chocolate, biscuits

Disadvantages: A bit limited, the meat's not so good.

There was a time when people used to be ashamed to shop in places such as Aldi and Lidl or at least ashamed to be caught shopping there!

Well I, for one, have never been ashamed of it and couldn't care less what other people thought of me.

I'm lucky to have an Aldi AND a Lidl not far from each other and close to my house (5 minutes for Aldi and 10 for Lidl).
I understand most people are not happy with doing a weekly shop in just Aldi or Lidl and need to top up by going to other mainstream supermarkets. I used to be one of them.
I can happily say that after getting used to both Aldi and Lidl I can easily do a weekly shop in either.

Aldi is great for biscuits (Aldi's own and more famous brands), chocolate (they have lots of it and it is good quality German chocolate) with 45, 55, 65 or 75% cocoa, toiletries (I have used their shower gel a few times and it has been fine).
They have a good range of cleaning products. I am a big fan of their anti-bacterial cleaning wipes and their window cleaning spray. I get bog rolls and washing tablets from there too. All good quality for a fraction of the price.

The best thing about Aldi I would say are the monthly offers they have on fruit and veg. At the moment 69p for a pineapple, 69p for a punnet of plum tomatoes (my toddler loves them, he keeps nicking them from our veg rack), 69p for 6 small golden delicious apples. I buy a bag of sweet potatoes for 79p and butternut squash for 69p.
I won't go on but you get the gist.

They have free-range eggs for £1.29 (for 6), much cheaper than the £1.52 I had to pay in Morrisons or Sainsbury's not long ago.

The cheese is good and they have some decent pizzas at fair prices. I wouldn't recommend the meat as our local Aldi do not store it well and it always looks as if it has gone off.

But you can get some really good stuff from the middle aisles where they have accessories and home stuff and which they change regularly.

Since shopping in Aldi (and Lidl), I find that I don't buy unnecessary food and cook everything from scratch now.
I'd give it 4 stars because I do prefer Lidl slightly.

Summary: Head there if you want to save your pennies.
