Advantages: Loads
Disadvantages: None that I can think of
I've never been one of your 'shop snobs' you know the ones that can't shop unless they shop in the shop they usually shop in! No, I must admit when it comes to shopping - like drinking - I can do it just about anywhere! So when they built a new Aldi's store around the corner from my house I was delighted.
From the day it opened I was hooked, the deli counter was full of delicious meats, cheeses, olives and fish, all a lot cheaper and in most cases better quality than the bigger supermarkets. Their bread is always fresh and they have quite an assortment; Italian, French etc. The fruit and veg is also fresh and very, very reasonably priced - they have a 5 fruit and veg thing where they charge 69 pence for selected produce, this week it's plums, red apples, oranges and something else, but all of their fresh stuff is cheaper than most.
However, the foodstuff, fresh or otherwise, is not the reason for my love affair with Aldi, no, it's the specials, I can't wait to see what they have on offer each week, it's so varid, they range from fishing or motor cycling gear to HD telivisions - I've bought two of these and can find nothing to complain about they look nice, work great, have all the ports and thingies you will ever need, the price was around £100 cheaper than anywhere else I'd looked and if anything goes wrong I have a 3 year, no quibbles guarantee, can't be bad!
I have bought Cashmire jumpers for about eighteen quid, hundred percent cotton ones for eight, kids slippers and shoes for three or four and excelent quality bedding for a pittance.
All in all, Aldi gives you great value for money and I would recommend most of their goods to anyone, especially their drinks be them soft or alcoholic (they do an energy drink at around two quid for six, that my sons assure me is no different to the well known, very expensive one, so I save a fortune there!) Their seasonal stuff takes some beating; Christmas the store is full of fantastic treats as it is at Easter, Valantine etc.
And finally I could not go without giving their chocolates a mention' The Chocolates Are Scrumptious!' I have tried near enough their whole range and can't get enough of the 70+% dark chocolate with cranberries, that's done it, I'll have to go and get a bar now or I won't be able to function!
Summary: Good value for money

- 21/04/09 i used to be a shop snob until i got a mortgage, many debts and a b/f that showed me how silly I was being. I now shop at Aldi and too be honest I can’t believe how stupid I was before. I totally agree most thinks in there are just as good if not better than the leading brands at a fraction of the cost, the shop is always very clean and well presented and would recommend this shop to anyone good review x |

- 06/04/09 Great review - I like both Aldi and Lidl (I believe the owners of these two great shops are brothers and originally ran a business together but then fell out and then did their own thing!) - thanks anyway - I can't wait until they build an Aldi around this way! :-) |
