~What is it?~
Aldi is a budget supermarket, short for ALbrecht Discount, that originated in Germany, founded in 1913. Aldi is it's main competitor in the budget supermarket market, there is also Netto.

~Is it any a good?~
Aldi has a limited selection of stock, and some of the products are a bit 'naff' but if you are looking for a cheap place to buy discount brands, then this is the place for you. When you go in, you are very aware of the strange layout, the products are often just randomly placed, so are very hard to find. Frequently the prices are in the wrong place so you are not sure how much something is. Non food items are all piled in the middle, you can find walking sticks, shoes, t-shirts, a bbq or power tools, a laptop or in fact any number of random things.

At the till, you either have to pay for bags, bring you own or nick a box from one of the shelves in the store, or just pack everything in the trolley and throw it in the boot when you get to your car.

The food is average, something's are really nice, some are just average and some are really nasty, and taste like a food substitute.

You can buy most things for the same or less if you use Tesco Value Range, so I wouldn't call it excellent value, it's a toss up between value, taste and quality.

~In conclusion~
If you are looking for value, look around first, in the no frills range in normal supermarkets you can buy food as cheaper, sometimes even cheaper than Aldi, if you shop carefully it can be just as cheap. I like some of the stuff, but not all. I wouldn't go to Aldi for a full weekly shop, there just isn't the variety I need.

Summary: Good for some things, but not for a full shop.

the baskets usually get thrown in the canal around our area, so I am glad they have stopped using baskets, I'm sorry but how hard is it to bring a £1 or a token for a shopping basket. you can always ask at the till to borrow you a pound if you have forgotten.

I agree is pretty average at best. I hate that they dont have baskets to.How much money can they really be saving by not giving customers baskets to use?
