Advantages: brilliant bargains to be had
Disadvantages: none i can think of!
I started using Aldi about a year ago and wow what a difference it's made to my weekly shopping bill. We are quite fortunate that we have an Asda, Aldi & Tesco all within walking distance of each other! So what I started doing was going to Aldi first and then going to Asda straight after, I found I still do the shopping in the same amount of time and save loads.
Basically the fruit and veg at Aldi is the best and the best price, they usually have the seasonal food on offer so salad stuff at the moment is all 49p or 29p!! though they do stock veg at reasonable prices from 69p for a bag!! I make alot of smoothies so when the fruits on offer I buy loads!
I have been buying their thick loaf of bread now for 69p (a bargain compared to some stores!), their ketchup is under £1 for large bottle, the baked beens are 49p and fab. Dishwasher tablets are great too and their absorbant kitchen roll is cheaper.
The easiest way I find to compare prices is using the 'how much per gram' etc it is, then I remember it in my head and compare it with Asda as soon as I get there, then next time I know where is the best to buy from.
The offers on household stuff is fantastic but when they run out they run out! I have been buying for the last few weeks boxes of 25 packs of crisps for £1.25! the best before date is Oct so i've worked out how many I need although with all aldi's offers you can only purchase 3 of that item in one day. I have also just bought a Hannah Montana and Dora the explorer duvet set for my daughters for £4 each!!
We have found the baked beans, crisps, yoghurts, ketchup, bread all taste as good as anywhere else. Also I find the tills aren't usually that busy (when I go) so it doesn't take me long now I know the store and where everything is to wiz round.
And of course as you would expect the wines and beers and Aldi are really reasonable.
So then when I've finished at Aldi I go and get all the bits from Asda that aren't available at Aldi.
I reckon i've saved at least £10 - £20 a week on shopping by combining Aldi & Asda together and looking for the bargains.
If you have one near you I'd give it a go.
Summary: A great way to shop
