Advantages: A good range of food; The alcohol, cakes and fruit are as good as anywhere else and loads cheaper

Disadvantages: A lot of their food isn't very good quality

We don't go to Aldi very often because we haven't got one near to us and even though they have some good offers on fruit and stuff it's not worth us making the long trip for it because we don't like a lot of their other food.

Yesterday we went in though because we went to visit my dads mate and he lives at the back of the Selly Oak Aldi in Birmingham and we needed to get a bit of shopping in anyway.

It's cleaner than a lot of Aldi shops and the isles are wide so that you don't feel all crammed in when you're looking around. They sell most things that you'd find in a supermarket but haven't got many brand names because most of their stuff is their own brand.

The tins aren't that good but my mum got some tinned tomatoes and rice pudding for my little sister. There are loads of different tins and they're loads cheaper than in Sainsburys but we know from before that the soup and beans and stuff aren't that good and not worth buying even though they're so cheap.

The fruit and veg is ok but a lot of it looked like it would go off quick. We got some mangos, cherries and apples and all of them are nice and fresh but the lettuce looked proper wilted and the potatoes were a bit soft.

They sell bacon and cooked meat as well but none of that was much cheaper than in other shops and there looked like there was a lot of fat on the bacon. My mum got a bargain on some chops and chicken breasts though and they were even cheaper than the butcher by us and he is cheap even though meat is dear now.

The alcohol in Aldi is always good and I know my mum gets a lot of her Xmas drinks from Aldi and some of the munchies becuase they're all good as well. The boxes of cakes and chocolate biscuits are nice and loads cheaper than in other shops and once you take them out of the boxes no-one would know where they came from.

I got a bottle of their brand peach snappes and it's as good as Archers and only cost about £5.00 and their version of Baileys is wicked as well and loads better than Irish Meadow and other cheap rip off brands.

The only thing with Aldi is the queues and having to pay 3p for every carrier bag. We were in the queue for about 15 minutes yesterday and even though there are about 6 tills there were only 2 working and that does my head in in any shop.

Yesterday my mum spend £13.00 and she got quite a bit but nothing really for proper food so even though they're cheap she'll end up spending more than usual on shopping this week because she's still got to go to Sainsburys today.

For us it's not worth it but I reckon if you're on a proper tight income then you could get a lot of your stuff from here and save a few quid. This one in Selly Oak is right next to the university and loads of their customers are the students because the food is quite nice but people who can afford to shop somewhere better propably will.

Summary: I Wouldn't Be Embarressed To Shop Here But I Prefer Sainsburys

We don't have Aldi here in Northern Ireland.
