I have just been let go from Aldi after a mere 13 weeks of employment, reason being I was not fast enough on the tills or on the floor.......but there is far more to it than that, during my training I was in a different store and there was absolutely no problems there but I had only 3 days experience on the tills before commencing my new job in a brand new store, the first day I arrived at 6:15 and at 6:30 the doors were opened and I proceeded to pack away the bread and flowers, I had this done in one hour (target is 1.5 hours) and I then helped a deputy manager pack his chiller order, this was not recognised later when the store manager came into the store. I had checked off everything on my picklist bar one item which was missing, the deputy manager then asked me if I was missing anything so I told him what I was missing, he then told me he had it on his order so I checked it off, only to be told by the store manager I failed my test by checking it off! Later that day (this was my first encounter with the S.M) she walked in and gave me a look that I knew meant she didn't like me! Then I went into the office to introduce myself whilst on my break, her response was "welcome to hell" which kinda shocked me but I laughed it off, after that I was on nothing but the closing shifts which was really unfair as I had a child to collect after work and I wasn't getting home til 11PM! But I never complained and just got on with my job to the best of my capability. I only worked one evening shift with the store manager and it was the first evening everyone got out on time as seemingly they were not getting out til midnight every night before that! There was an incident one day at the till with a product that wouldn't scan and she decided to take it out on me in front of the waiting Customers, they, needless to say were not impressed and said it was not great Customer etiquette to give out to staff in front of them, but they never said it to her, which would have been great but anyway. The other day we had a stock take(inventory) and I was the only non management staff to give results to the area manager and he seemed happy with my work, but he let girl go the following day for laughing in the warehouse! So yesterday I went in 3 yes 3 hours early as I had been in town on other business and I offered to start early which she jumped at, later on the area manager arrived and I was asked to join him in the canteen for a chat, so I went in, not nervous at all as I was happy with my performance to date, he then proceeded to tell me that my trial period had been unsuccessful as I was not fast enough on the tills, I told him that no matter what I done I could not get it to rise over 950 unless i threw the Customers shopping into the trolley myself(some people refused to pack at the benches and who am I to tell them again they need to do it, I would rather keep the customer than get a few extra numbers on a speed report, afterall they are the ones keeping us in a job! He also said I was slow on the floor which made me laugh as I was either on first till so I couldn't go on the floor bar my own area at the front which I kept clean at all times or whilst on second till I would literally be on the floor for a minute and then the bell would ring for me to return to the tills. I am considering contacting the regional manager about this issue as I think it was a "get the Irish in, get the Customers then get rid of the Irish and hire the foreigners in" I am disgusted with Aldi and would not recommend anyone to work for them. Rant over :)
Summary: Do not work here!
