Advantages: Great value, all under one roof

Disadvantages: Quality can be a bit low.

Argos is a high street store that operates almost like a warehouse. The business is based on a catalogue which lists around 1000 pages of items which they stock.

There store fronts are generally small cluttered areas in order to minimise costs, which contain a number of catalogues to browse and then a pay station and collection point.

The concept of Argos is quite a simple one. You browse the catalogue, either in the store, at home, or via the internet, then select the items you want by noting the unique reference number. This is taken to either a manned pay station, or one of their automated machines, payment is made, and then you are sent to a collection point to pick up your item.

The whole process usually takes around 10 minutes from entering to leaving (a bit less if you know exactly what you want before hand).

I think Argos is a great shop and very handy. I find it especially useful if I have a number of miscellaneous items I want to pick up without having to trudge round 10 different shops, as it has such a massive range of items (When I was little I would often marvel at how they could fit the entire contents of the catalogue in the bit behind the store).

I would specifically recommend Argos for basic leisure equipment and low price furnishings for your home. Just recently I have purchased a 3 man tent (£30) and a sleeping bag (£15) and I've been very happy with the quality. I really feel that Argos offers you good value for money, thanks to its catalogue shop set-up, keeping its costs down. However, hopefully without sounding like a snob, I wouldn't want to make any expensive purchases in Argos, as I suspect the generally quality of items is a little lower that it a specialist store stocking whatever item you are after. And as for purchasing jewellery from the Argos counter. NO. Just no.

You can also use and collect nectar points in Argos which is a little extra bonus.

All in all, I think Argos is a useful little store and I hope to see it remaining on our high street for many years to come.

Summary: As long as you're not buying jewellery, this is the easiest way to shop (excl Mr internet that is)

I agree with you about not purchasing expensive stuff from there. Our friends bought a sofa and it was awlful quality and they hated it but it was such a hassle waiting in for it to be delivered, they couldnt be bothered to send it back.
